Purely because I was outside up a ladder painting and the radio was about 50 feet away Laughing
Of course I had the volume up listening to the radio God that is - Steve Wright.

I'm sometimes "happy" to hear some of the awful Chris Evans so I might be able to comment on this thread.. which I did. Wink

All this sounds about right for the Chris Evans Juvenile Show.

What's wrong with Juvenilia on a Friday drivetime - I want to be juvenile on a Friday. I want cakes. I want gimmicky songs. I want the TFI theme tune. And thanks to Mr. Evans, I get.

That post won't have annoyed anyone now will it? :p

I thought the word "plank" was a reference to Evans for a second! Smile

Talking through "Watchtower" is tantamount to treason in my book. I'm so glad I don't listen to this junk at 5.00pm.

Mr Evans talking about Tiger Woods and gold on Simon Mayo's 5Live show. Any tensions still between them Wink

Well I love the Chris Evans Show. I am of a similar age to Chris (a bit younger - 37) and I have listened to Chris wherever he has been from Radio 1 - Virgin, I even used to watch him on the Power Station Breakfast show on the short-lived BSB satellite system.

I think he's superb, I think his rapport with the team is great - his chemistry with Sally now is at least on a par with her and Johnny Walker.

Unlike others, I don't slag off shows for the sake of it - people have different tastes and 5 million people like Chris and listen to him every day.

I listen to Radio 2 at varying times of the day and depending on my schedule listen to Sarah Kennedy, Terry Wogan, Ken Bruce, Jeremy Vine, Steve Wright and Chris. My favourite shows are

1. Chris
2. Terry
3. Wrighty
4. Ken Bruce
5. Sarah Kennedy
6. Jezza

Keep up the great work Chris and don't change for anyone

Tonights show was a joy. Evans took the Nigey/Saunders tent affair and ran with it Laughing He was cracking up before the sports locker, really enjoyed that section. I think Chris should stray from the script a bit more often as it makes the show even better.

But surely, if he strayed from the 'script' any more, there'd be no point playing music because he'd TALK ALL OVER IT!!!

I know exactly what you mean. He played Bowie after 6 earlier this week (Starman I think) and proceeded to talk over the last long chorus. If I'd requested that on Friday (or Jump for that matter) and he talked over the end, I'd be pretty peeved.

Interesting the other week when someone texted for a song based on what Evans had been discussing... and was totally refused. Apparently, everything's locked and can't be altered. Which must come as news to the likes of Walker and Bruce who can play whatever they fancy when the mood takes them.

Evans needs to relax more and not stick so rigidly to his restrictive format.

I agree Ian. If he ripped the script up and winged I think the show would be even better. If you remember the time when the music catalogue computer crashed and he did the whole show with one "70's classics" CD, it was brilliant. Spontaneous Evans just making it up on the spot and you really felt he was enjoying it.

P.S - Johnny Saunders doing the intro yesterday Laughing

Listening to Drivetime last night was interesting for two reasons. It was a good show (the crab story was brilliant) and it was a show which in the second hour had me reaching for my personalised post-it notes. To explain that, when I was lucky enough to manage a small part of a Government department, back in the days of gainful employment , I could never tell people off .. in that … sort of .. shape up or ship out kind of way that some managers do. So I developed my own system of letting folk know that I wasn’t altogether happy with their performance. I had some personalised post-it notes printed up. At the top there was some text. “A note from Rachel” and a watermark picture of a butterfly. I had to be boiling mad on the inside to use one. If someone had fallen behind with some work or had produced complete rubbish, I would write something, often cryptic but nothing rude or scathing on one of my post-it notes and leave on their desk or attached to the focus of my discontent - it may have said simply – “Wednesday is a memory!” or “Who’s it for?” or “ I’m disappointed that pub lunch is off this week” depending on what wasn’t up to scratch. My notes became the most feared and revered of all rollokings around the office. /// Anyway to get to the point, in the studio, attached to Chris’ mic, my note would say…

“right order?”

Well, I've tried to Listen Again (why's it not on the new i-player?) and words fail me. What was all that guff in between Rainbow and Regina Spektor? And then that interview with the most boring American (and that's saying something) in the world. Rolling Eyes

Is this really what people want to hear while driving home from work?

What order?

The show, and I don't just mean Chris but the whole "show", crossed the line towards the end of hour one and just about all the way through the second hour.

I never explained my notes: they would gather in a huddle.. and whisper, what's wrong with this, what the hell does she mean?
They always worked it out though.
