It was nice to hear Eamonn covering for Jeremy this week. It was a surprise as I thought Matthew Bannister was.

At least Eamon let the listeners put their point of view over and don't judge them.

I enjoyed Eamonn today and there is something soothing about the way he says 0800 288 291.

He's slightly different broadcaster. Dosn't rush the callers like Jeremy does.

No, Bannister said it would be Eamonn this week. I can't complain I wasn't warned!

(That said, I thought Holmes was pretty good - gently probing, rather than worked-up and excitable like Jeremy)

Ditto. both, however, are an improvement on the usual incumbent.

I started off thinking Viney was a breath of frsh air after Sir JY, but I soon got fed up with his over-excitability and "shock-jock" technique.

If he'd just calm down, find some sensible material and stop trying to trip people up with silly soundbites I'd listen more. I do like his taste in music.

Bannister was excellent and Holmes as bad as JV. Who thinks up the topics they were dire as well ?

Bannister seems to have a knack of controlling the whole show much better, and I like his "firm but fair" touch. It's certainly better (in my humble opinion) than JV's style, who is like a cat on hot bricks and seems to get bored with callers who have more than 10 words to utter, it seems. I get so fed up with his propensity for talking over confused callers and cutting them off in their prime (just so he can play another same-old-same-old playlist music track) that I can barely listen to his show any more.

Eamonn Holmes did a creditable job. I like his more relaxed tone, though his own opinions were coming through a bit too often. He didn't quite know how to handle Terry's gardening slot, either!

As for discussion topics on the show in general, I think the standard of production from the programme editor is much less professional than it was in JY's day. So much of the show's content is filler.

And MoneysavingMartin.com annoys the hell out of me! I've heard him talk absolute cobblers on more than one occasion so I don't listen to him anymore.

I hear what you are saying about the editor Robbie, but he is the same person who was editor for JY for his last 10 years.......

Times change and things move on rightly or wrongly.

I'm surprised... or maybe I'm not. The standard of production is certainly worse (lazy, really), so maybe even the editor doesn't care too much these days either? JV's production is very tabloid (just like Panorama is - another show that Vine presents, if only by "topping & tailing"), though it's fair to attribute that fact to the very pessimistic and cynical top-down culture that exists within the BBC these days. Everybody in a position of influence is looking over their shoulder and dead scared to step out of line. I guess that's why British radio and TV are just so bland these days. JV's show certainly is that - bland.

It wasn't like it in Hugh Carlton-Greene's day!

True enough...
