Five new high-speed main lines crossing the width and breadth of the UK may be built as part of a review of the rail network, Network Rail says.

Too little too late. We should have been tackling the problem 30 years ago. With fuel rationing on the horizon, maybe we should convert some motorways? _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |

That would be more expensive. The Sleepers wouldn't fit onto all motorways. |

Blimey. What sized sleepers do you intend using? Most of the sleepers I know are only a couple of metres wide. _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |

The existing Railway needs to be looked at instead of adding more problems? |

People have been looking at the railway for decades. What we now need, however, is a coherent strategy that takes into account the increased usage demands and levels this against a decreasing reliance on the automobile (given the rising cost of fuel).
Unfortunately, I don't see that happening.
Anyhow, I like trams! _________________ ONline, ONdigital and ONtherocks: BBC Radio 2. Eleanor Rigby, wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door. |
