Do you listen to Radio 2 Robbie? If so you should have heard the name.

I do listen from time to time, though I'm no anorak I have to admit. I don't recall the name Ricky Salmon. Is he famous?

The BBC doesn't employ "newscasters" though. ITN does.

Ricky is one of the main newsreaders on R2. I agree Mark he doesn't look like he sounds, I'm still getting over what Bob Harris looks like!!

Hearing a name regularly doesn't mean you are an anorak Robbie.

Impressive list of clients for whom they have done voiceover, announcer and other radio work, and in particular those infamous "telephone on hold etc" messages.

My wife has just been asked by the not-insignificantly-sized organisation she works for to record some of these, for nothing in addition to her normal salary. By extension it made me wonder why the BBC finds it necessary to pay for a freelance person and/or his company to read the news.

To put it simply, freelance contracts = no employment commitment. Most of British broadcasting on run on freelance contracts these days - not just presenters staff but technical and even admin.

Of course. Silly me, pardon my ignorance. I was old-fashioned enough to think it would be costing them more than to pluck someone who could read clearly from the newsroom - but then they're all freelance journalists, I suppose Laughing

I'm not "judging" anybody or anything. I'm just a stickler for accuracy, dear boy.

Blimey,Well done Mark! He's about 30 years younger than I would have assumed the voice to be. Reminds me of The Turtles, "So happy together". etc, fat old men.
Just goes to show..... something.
