Why are the Radio 2 listings in the RT increasingly a work of fiction ?
You used to be able to rely on them- publishing times have not changed
so what is the excuse ? Aside from sickness presenters don't usually
leave or take holidays without due notice. I am sure I heard Matthew Wright saying he was presenting the last of his Friday Arts Shows last friday- but next weeks RT still has him listed. Now I may have misheard
that bit but on Saturday am the RT listed the 4-6 slot as Mo Dutta. I turned on to get Tim Smith. On Sunday Tim Smith is listed but we got
Pete Mitchell. At least they had Roger Royle down but then Aled Jones must have given weeks of notice that he would be away this week.
I know there are other channels for this information. I buy RT for the odd artice and the R4 listings but begin to wonder if they are accurate as well.
Another example of the BBC not betting its act together yet the price of the RT seems to go up every other week ! Oh and there is the uncertainty about who is doing the Jeremy Vine show as well !

I agree they seem to be getting things wrong more often these days.

I'll wait and see if they are correct about who is doing the JV Show tomorrow! He didn't say anything about being away at the end of Friday's show, but it's also listed in the Sunday Times TV/Radio guide as well as RT that Clive Anderson will be presenting.

Nickbucks,

First of all, welcome back, another of our once-a-year posters makes an appearance.

Yes the R2 schedule is a bit unpredictable for sure these days, clearly once they print Radio Times they ain't gonna burn 'em all and do a reprint.

I haven't bought an RT for years, if I'm needing some details on the week's schedule I tend to look at:

Bleb.org

They usually include late changes. They've got Mitchell listed for the twilight job, but still got MW for Friday. I don'tlisten to either show.

Since they tinkered with the early morning weekend slots and extended them to four hours a few months ago, Mo Dutta now only does Saturdays (although I don't know the reason for his absence this week) and Pete Mitchell is now only on Sundays.

There was a weird thing on Saturday. Radio Times listed the final part of "On The Blog" at 1.30pm so naturally I didn't tune in. But surfing the channels, Radio 2 actually broadcast a funny Mitchell & Webb sitcom. I caught most of the second half but would heard the whole show if I'd known.

Yep: horoscopes are more accurate than the RT listings.

It's all about communication between the schedulers at the Beeb. ( Thats break down in communication ).. I guess the RT print them well in advance and then changes happen? IE Holidays.

Never mind it can be a surprise for some or a not for others. Laughing

Likewise. When the schedules seemed to take second place to the features, adverts masquerading as features and columnists trying hard to fill space that was previously gainfully employed telling readers about radio and TV programmes, I stopped buying it. That was some years ago now.

Why does the Saturday R2 page now refuse to acknowledge Brian Matthew's existence?

On an admittedly quick inspection of the new issue, I can't find another example of the presenter not being named.

I stopped getting RT a few months ago, after Sainsburys sent me some half-price vouchers, only to find, surprise, surprise, that they sold out long before I got there on our weekly shop. Long before then it had gone largely unread, as the articles and features got more and more "bitty" and I got fed up of "Q"-type Top 20 lists.

The programme listings were never very reliable, and as they tried to squeeze more and more digital channels on they weren't very informative either. The only thing it was good for was the film review pages, the entries for which appear in slightly expanded form in the annual RT Guide to Films.

I was actually hoping to hear On The Blog (sad I know...) - anyone know why it was pulled? M&W was funny but I had heard it before.

Probably has something to do with Lesley Douglas. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Brian Matthew is next for the chop.

I e-mailed Radio 2 and asked why On The Blog had been pulled and just got this charming reply:
Quote:

Dear Ian,

Many thanks for your message.

The programme On The Blog was cancelled at the last moment. Sorry.

Best wishes,

Radio 2

Someone must have heard me, as his name check is reinstated this week.
