Since retiring just over a month ago (well- giving up work) I’ve been getting up at about 6:45 am, so have woken up to Sarah Kennedy. I never thought I’d say this (well not out loud)but her show is pretty good. The newspaper review leaves me feeling completely on the case with world events before my first cup of tea. She does talk quite a bit of nonsense at times (don’t we all) but now and again there’s a real gem. This morning for example; “Buppy”! My hubby and I come from opposite ends of the country; he argues that Buppy is Bead and Butter – my recollection is the version that was on the show this morning, that Buppy is a slice of dry bread torn into small pieces then put in a cup with a spoon of sugar , then covered in hot milk, then eaten with a teaspoon. We had that for breakfast quite often when I was a child. Now and again if the Chickens had been busy we’d have “Boily” which is almost the same but instead of milk, a soft-boiled egg is mixed with dry bread pieces and salt. Yummy…..

The music is ok too – it seems to have a theme to it.

Some of the music is OK - it does seem to have a feminine streak to it - but I can never understand why it always has to be a slow, dreamy, wistful or sombre classical piece that follows Pause for Thought, even when the thought is an upbeat one.

Your Buppy sounds disgusting, Rachel Laughing but then I'm not a fan of hot milk (goes back to very young childhood when my mum seemed to think that hot sterilised milk sweetened with brown sugar was good for you). The Boily variation sounds better, although the Food Police would frown on it (Egg and SALT) these days)

I believe that Sarah Kennedy exists in her slot to emphasise how good the regular presenters before and after her are. Some people may like her bumbling regurgitation of the newspaper headlines, and those of religious and entertainment news, which take up nearly half an hour of her alotted one-and-a-half, but I much prefer to read them for myself.

It may be that with Alex being gone for ages, I need recalibrating. Smile

Buppy was yummy Smile Ron - you should try it- I'm thinking about maybe having it for lunch. The egg one was yummy too. Salt is supposed to be bad and causes high blood pressure though. We don't cook with or use salt at all now ( except when I have a boiled egg). My hubby hides the salt though. ( I have my own stash) Very Happy

SK is a bit like my mum - a bit scatty

"hot sterilised milk sweetened with brown sugar ".... oh yuck Very Happy

Well I do like Richard:- he's sweet.. will prolly drop him a line or two. Alex is back next week too. Smile

This morning Sarah used the phrase " as black as your hat" ... my mum said that that to me only yesterday....although she was talking about one of her new chickens....

I'm not sure that this morning's sprout story had any truth in it but it was funny... Smile and the blonde joke... was a really old one Very Happy

Q. What do smart blondes and UFO's have in common?
A. You always hear about them but never see them. Smile

'It was a blonde. The kind of a blonde that would make a bishop kick a hole in a stained glass window...' A great line from Raymond Chandler.

I come from as far South as you can get and keep your feet dry. When I was a little boy (a long, long time ago) Buppy was bread and butter. Oh happy times

Sarah Kennedy's show, and style of presentation, would be much more suited to Sunday teatimes on the old Stewpot slot.
