I do but in small doses.
I find him listenable for a while/for a few days even but when he gets hyper/starts shouting I tend too switch off/retune.
Having Richard on Drivetime is my idea of perfect radio though-I could listen to Richard 24/7 no problem. |

At least someone different for a change. Maybe the show will slightly change for the week? I hope the Radio times got the correct person as they do sometimes balls things up. |

Putting RA on Drive duty takes me back! I hope it's true too - it's good having a few different stand ins, and hopefully means Stuart's having a well deserved week off!
Now all we need is Alex Lester deputising in a few weeks' time too! |

Well I guess Richard's still at least second choice, i'm afraid - Stuart's needed on the 8-10pm slot that week as Mark will be still on the afternoons (I think) or if not on the afternoons, he's off himself on holiday. I wonder what Simon's doing that week? Glad he's busy

It's strange again Sally is off when Chris is. Does she not like to host the show with another person? |

Really looking forward to the coming week with Richard Allinson covering for Chris Evans on the Drietime Show.
Who will be the traffic presenter presenting alongside Richard? |

Anything that Richard does that isn't 'excellent' ?
Are you sure you aren't his agent, or maybe a family member ? |

Well, the first traffic report and already the 'chemistry' has run out - first, she was expecting conversation which he failed to supply and then he starts a conversation only to completely ignore her.
At this rate the only chemistry between them by Friday will be the poison she's putting in his tea... |

You obviously don't remember some of Evans' 'chemistry' with Sally Traffic?! Much more awkward on occasions than anything I heard on this evening's show!
I only heard the first hour, but Richard was at ease and very smooth. Good tunes (with minimal talkover), and a feature where he allowed the interviewee to talk at length. He (or the producers) got rid of many of Evans' tedious features. I'm looking forward to hearing more of the 'decade in a day' features later this week.
Drivetime certainly has one extra listener this week... |

You've obviously not listened to Drivetime for ages - Chris and Sally get on very well now. The way Chris brings in all the gang and they go along with him is one of the better aspects of his show. As opposed to playing a jingle and pausing like tonight. |

I can't see how you can say the chemistry between Richard and Bobbi is excellent.
If there is one thing wrong with Richard in my eyes,it is his complete lack of sincerity ot genuine interest in what anyone says.

RA isn't that bad, hang on, yes he is actually, but that's another thread........
I care very little for RA's broadcasting style - I think he's desperate to get Radio 2 airtime and I'm pretty sure he can be seen hanging around outside waiting for someone to be sick - but he actually sounded quite good from what I heard yesterday compared to what we normally have to put up with!
I didn't really get to hear much of the show yesterday. Did he play any Dido or Steely Dan?
Allinson is terribly overrated (well, by Mark Mayhew that is! ) |

When Chris is away from drivetime, it's like Euro 2008 was without England. Lots of good football going on but we all supported different teams. |

I never said it was 'excellent', I just didn't think it was as bad as the above put-downs!
RA does care quite a lot about what people have to say. Case in point - the 5.20 ish features on Monday (the Dragon's Den band) and tonight (sand castle hotel). I thought both were well conducted, and there was no usual rush to get through as when Evans 'interviews' because he's overrun by talking to a kid or something 'wacky' earlier on.
Ian - I do still listen occasionally to Evans so that I can still form an opinion of this great man! I'll gladly accept that their rapport has IMPROVED since he first started, but it's still not quite there as in JW's days. He still says stuff that Sally ums and ahs along to, making me wonder (as I do) whether she gives a damn and just wants to read the traffic!
He carries the team along with him because without them, he'd sink. He's traditionally of a 'zoo' format and as proven when he started the slot, he needs noise behind him. ANY noise. |

Hi Ian-Here I am-just returning to the UK from the USA-business trip etc.
20 minutes through the door and I am straight onto this site.
Pleased to advise whilst I have been away have managed to listen to all the Drivetime Shows this week with RA at the helm.
Great shows-certainly nothing to defend- simply put great entertainment with great music played. Richard seems to be in fine form to me.
RA is a past master re Drivetime Shows remembering of course he covered for Johnnie Walker when he had a little substance problem a few years back.
Of more interest to me currently is a personal attack on me by "Admin" on another section of this site re the suggestions/ideas section.
Keep tuning into RA.
Allinson rocks. |

I nearly listened to a whole show on Thursday to give him a chance
Some good music but in between we just got an excuse to fill time by asking people to nominate a song that summed up the 90's, so all we got was 2 hours of text after text read out and lists of things that happened in the 90s
Come back Chris |

Are you sure about that? I think Mark's back next week and it would be odd for him to be off again the week after. Isn't it more likely that Stuart will be away from the evening show or broadcasting from Edinburgh? |

normally Mark takes a fortnight off in august but this year he seems to have split it up into 2 one week holidays ,the first being this week..Maybe because hes due to sit in for Steve Wright again starting august 18 i think.By the way Janice Long is alsoon holiday the week beginning august 11 but theres no word on who's sitting in for her yet.It will probably be Pete Mitchell though. |
