I have bought Radio Times for years & now subscribe as i saw a very good offer.
But for some time I have just glanced at the cover & put it aside, forgetting to consult it during the week.
So the buying- or subscribing- is more a habit.
But i have now started to have a look at the listings, even sometimes the articles
Can be quite useful.
Always useful to know what you've missed on the telly
and on Radio, come to that

Only buy it at Christmas - why waste money when the Weekend papers give you most of the info for free, and anything else can be found online?

Yes, I was only thinking that the other day.. I always insisted we had the Radio Times above all others, the TV Times was a begrudged second choice and the likes of TV Quick were a complete no no in my view.
But for the last 6 months we haven't bought it at all. Several copies laid on the table untouched apart from a quick flick through.
This is because we just use the TV Guide on our Freeview set up... not so much information maybe but certainly more convenient.
I wonder if there's a national downward sales trend for it?

I stopped buying it earlier this year, when Sainsbury's sent me some half-price coupons and were always sold out. I'd always bought it from there but in truth in recent years it had gone largely unread, as the programme schedules became more and more crowded with ever smaller print and with lesser detail, and many times they were changed anyway.

The articles and interviews were sometimes interesting, but all too often it was reduced to Heat-style trivia, or Q-style Top 20 lists.

The daily and weekend papers, and the Freeview and cable on-screen schedule pages supply all I need, and more. If there's something really noteworthy (eg Wogan's interview) the newspapers cover it anyway.

I still get it ,but next weeks cover (16-22 August) almost put me off, scary or what. I certainly won't be leaving it lying around where anyone of a nervous disposition can see it! Shocked Twisted Evil Shocked

Ron

I've not been able to buy it in my local Sainsbury's (as well as other things Sad ) for ages and complained but it didn't help so I now go elsewhere for it.

I must admit it doesn't get looked at as much as before but I do like the extra info on radio programmes so I'll continue to buy it for the time being.

The advantage of Radio Times is that it does give more info about progs on the radio than you get anywhere else

Exactly why I stopped buying it years ago.

Yes, and that's pretty much the only reason I still buy it.

my main reason too. The papers give plenty of info on TV, but only the scantiest info on Radio

Has anyone seen the front of this weeks copy of the RT with Wogan? Looks like he's been airbrushed like Ronnie Corbett on the last page. Laughing

I subscribe to RT, I like it, it's much better than most other magazines that are just about soaps, soaps and more soaps (I hate soaps!)

I usually read most of it but skip the Dr Who bits when there are some.

I buy the RT, simply for the reasons voiced by Helen and others. The radio coverage. All I have to do now, is remember to listen to the programmes i've earmarked, especially on R4.

At least now, they tell you what's on 6 Music.

Guy Garvey. 10 till 12, Sunday nights. Wink
