I have a bone to pick with Bob Harris. He asked for people to nominate their Great Britons on his Drivetime show today
I'm sure I can't be the only one to have nominated Winston Churchill, the one man who saved the world from facism & a thousand year reich.

But Bob did not read out that nomination- instead he reaads out totally silly ones, like Richard Branspon & Johnny Rotten
Shame on him!

I'd nominate Johnny Rotten! He saved this country from a thousand years of Emerson. Lake and Palmer!

I must say I thought Whispering Bob was in good form this afternoon.

There is something about his laid back style of broadcasting which I like.

Great stuff from Bob this afternoon - even though he was playing more popularist stuff instead of the more eclectic mix on a Saturday evening (and there was nothing wrong with the choices the punters wanted), it was still an enjoyable couple of hours, which went over far too quickly.

I'm too much of a coward to ring in (don't like the sound of my voice on answerphone messages, never mind the radio) but I did e-mail him with a couple of suggestions for tracks to play on his Saturday show.

A gentle, unassuming style which makes me want to listen rather than reach for the 'off' button.

Bob did say he was continuing the 'Greatest Briton' tomorrow, so maybe Winnie will get a mention then.

I assume he read out suggestions for the Queen Mother?

Start listening (or Listen Again) to his Saturday show if you're not doing so already - some really good stuff on there, plenty of tempting tracks to chase down and buy the albums they're featured on.... Smile

Yes, I think so - plenty of opportunities to discuss artists' "Tracks of My Years" and "Album of the Week", etc. When I managed to listen to KB at length last year and the year before that, I was really impressed by how he managed to get some of the artists to really explain the motivations and subjects of their songs - the ideas behind the tracks in Lisa Miskovsky's "Falling Water" being one that springs to mind.

Bob has an equally good way of extracting this sort of info from his own guests - witness the conversations he's had with his live guests on the Saturday show recently - so would neatly fill in for KB in this respect.

Harris is perfect for the holiday week. Evans is great for the workday commute. Although Chris is off until January 15th and we have Mark Goodier for two weeks after this on drive.

Hi ernie, I also thought Bob's music tonight was excellent, I am only sorry that he is not sitting in for CE for the whole period that he is away. It's not that I dislike Mark, I just find him kind of bland, he sort of sounds a bit like lots of other R2 presenters without having his own definitive persona. Not like Radders, Wogan, JW or even Wotten Wossy, IMHO. Confused

Yep, Bob would be welcome on Drivetime for the duration, as far as I'm concerned
Wed I was back on the tram at 5PM, as I will be today, & his music went down very well!
Only thing is the Great Britons thing- the only contender is Winston Churchill. But his name has not been mentioned!
Amazingly, Churchills name was not on the list of Great Britons put out by the Tories-but what can you expect from the intelectually challenged Cameron?

ooops! I missed it!
Excellent!
Anyhow, I cpould get used to Bob at Drivetime every day. Maybe then Chris could go to Breakfast? But it didn't work out so well last time he was at Breakfast! Maybe he is best at Drivetime, but I like Bob at drivetime as well. If I were prog director at Radio 2, I'd be in a quandry! Surprised
