Just listeneed to Drivetime with "Whispering" Bob Harris, what a professional, such a contrast to the usual drivel on that show. Not too sure about the greatest British person though; there are just so many great Brits, with such a diversity of fields of greatness. So I could not nominate a single Brit that was the greatest Brit of all time. Rolling Eyes Anyway Bob's show tonight, IMHO, was great radio Laughing .

Chris Evans & Bob Harris are both great. Lets not try to turn this into a beauty contest!

I liked how he managed to sneak some Lizanne Knott onto the programme - not the usual Drivetime fodder but welcome all the same. Smile

If he can sneak some Lisa Redford, Gina Villalobos and Piney Gir into the next three shows I'll be equally as happy.... though I'm not sure a wide audience is really ready for the latter's "Greetings, Salutations, Goodbye".... Smile

Yes a really good week, just hope that LD takes note, but she won't! Sad Still back to work Tuesday, the time just seems to have flashed by Exclamation bit like a toilet roll, the closer you get to the end, the quicker it goes Exclamation

Barkingbiker,

I'm not sure though that I'd like to hear BH every day - keeping his shows to a Thursday and Saturday night makes them a little bit more special and worth waiting for.

After all, daily doses could end up like the usual travesty between 1400 and 1700 each normal weekday....

Cherskiy, you could well be right about that, I try & listen to Bob, especially on a Saturday night, if we are not out at some live gig or other. You know it only seems yesterday that he was introducing those new & exciting bands on Whistle Test with Annie Very Happy

I have listened to Bob Harris this week and I have to say imho he has been excellent- he shows great passion for the music played.

Hope he gets the nod to cover again for the Drivetime Show in the future when Chris Evans is next away.

By the way a start time of 4pm for the Drivetime Show is much more sensible in my opinion.

Yes CE is a radio legend, his exploits, in radio, at getting fired for the simple things that people in real jobs, that they have to do to keep the wolf from the door, is legendary. Bob Harris was doing real innovative musical presentation on The Old Grey Whistle Test such that CE can only look and marvel at. CE is so far behind Bob Harris in style, presentation and personality, IMHO, he is not fit to grace the same radio station. Bob Harris is a gentleman of radio, in comparison CE is, again IMO, merely a buffoon, that clowns his way inanely through "Driveltime". Evil or Very Mad How anyone can think there is any comparison, is just beyond me Confused

I very much enjoyed Bobs' drivetime shows this week, though I thought Fridays show was not as strong musically as his other shows in the week. As it was All request Friday, the choices were a tad predictable.
I was listening to him friday durinfg a horrendous & much delayed journey home from work! After his show I switched to Virgin & some great classic tracks
BTW, when I tuned into tonights show, about 15 mins ago, he was playing a dreadful track by some Somalian geezer Rolling Eyes
But his other tracks have been very good indeed! Very Happy

Hoobaale by K'naan - BH does try to feature one 'World Music' (well, African) track in the first hour each week. Some are surprisingly good but I'm not too impressed with last night's offering - which is on 'Listen Again' as I type. Still, I'm looking down the playlist for the rest of the show on his website and there's some great stuff to look forward to later on.... Smile

Bob's redeemed himself after the Somalian dirge with three great tracks in a row - Hayes Carll's "Beyond the Blues", Karine Polwart's "I've Seen It All" and Eisley's "Holding On".... normal service has resumed! Smile
