No, I'm not going to the TOGs convention
We are off to the Lake District early Saturday for a week and a day, I'm taking my waders and a lorry load of kagooles from Millets.
We are going to be staying in a place called Thornthwaite, it's near Keswick.
Will hopefully have some decent photos to show when we get back, apparently there are a lot of red squirrels in that particular area.
I will probably be able to pop on tomorrow night but thought I would put this message up now just incase I don't get time. |

Make sure you go to Buttermere Toggy, it's gorgeous.
The red squirrels abound in the Lakes, they're so lovely compared with grey ones.
Have a lovely time.

Have a great holiday, Toggy, and I agree with everyone else, Buttermere is absolutely sublime. The road from Keswick through the Honister Pass to get there is quite an adventure but it's worth it.
We like the Lakes, and with the schools going back next week it should be fairly quiet, even Windermere centre, which is usually best avoided.
Never seen the red squirrels, but they are very shy, unlike the grey vermin. _________________ Ron |

Back now, it was a bit wet, sometimes very wet but also there was some lovely sunshine too.
The scenery was stunning and Sandra/Ron you are right Buttermere is just beautiful.
My O/H took over 500 photos of our trip He has a proffesional camera but does photogrpahy as a hobby. His photos are brilliant and I said he should look into exhibiting some of them they are that good.
We also visited a slate mine which was really interesting, for those that saw the Griff Rhys Jones program (mountian) it was the one featured on there.
We saw loads of red squirrels, they are really cute.
Anyway back to work tomorrow
We are thinking of trying the channel islands next year. |

Glad you had a good time, toggy. Isn't digital photography wonderful? Incredible to think that only a few short years ago we were struggling with having to change film every 24/36 shots.
We honeymooned in Jersey, 22 years ago this week! It was great - plenty to see, do, photograph and walk. Some superb pubs and restaurants for eating, and tax-free shopping in St Helier, though it has to be said that all the many jewellers seemed to be owned by the one company and therefore once you'd been in one... (didn't stop my OH though!) and you do have to bear in mind there is a limit on the value of what you are allowed to bring back without HMRC getting interested.
Of course when we went all the tourist blurb had John Nettles photo on it.
Bro has been to both and prefers Guernsey, which he thought friendlier, as well as smaller/less busy. _________________ Ron |
