Must have dropped off to sleep last night watching Jamie Oliver on Channel 4 on the bedroom TV, woke up this morning to "We're Off To See The Tiddly-Peeps" (from children's show The Hoobs) and can't get the infernal thing out of my head, despite having since listened (on i-player) to Alex Lester, who finished up with Steely Dan's memorable "Peg".

This is popularly called an Earworm, something you hear, not necessarily at one particular time or special event, which just gets stuck in your head and repeats against your will.

I'm sure everyone has one, every day, although I can't remember what mine was yesterday. What's yours?

I get all sorts of earworms--pops, easy listening, classical pieces, hymns, you name it.

My current one is the opening of the cantata Olivet to Calvary by JH Maunder--a piece in which I've often sung but I've no idea why I've got it today.

A pop one that I had yesterday was an old Roy Orbison number, Workin' for the Man, which I think was on SOTS a fair while ago.

I remember once, when I couldn't sleep, having Bach's Bist Du Bei Mir for hours on end.

Work all that out!

I get them all the time, and start whistling them, and spend half a day wondering what it is I'm whistling.

A few days ago a woman in a customer's office said to me 'You know I've never before heard anyone whistling the theme to Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em, really good you are!"

I'm sitting here trying to remeber how it goes and I started whistling the theme to Please Sir!

I had 'No Limits' (2 Unlimited) in my head after it was on a Muller Light ad!

And when all the bother over Robert Peston was on BBC Breakfast, I was thinking 'Robert Peston put his vest on...' to the tune of Stump's 'Charlton Heston'!

Is it just me, or does he remind anyone else of Steve Carell as he was in 'the 40 Year Old Virgin'?

'King Of The Road' - it was after I heard someone singing this in Boots, and also when Brian Matthew played the answer song 'Queen Of the House'!

We're on a Proclaimers kick at the moment as a friend of mine was singing 'I'm On My Way' from the Shrek soundtrack on the way into Kirkstall Valley Nature Reserve.

My mum had the Disney Robin Hood theme music in her head after McDonald's used it in their ad.

Thanks, Helen. Yes, they were. The only tune that I know is Diademata by Sir George Elvey, which is in Anglican and Methodist tune books. It seems to be one of the few old hymns that crops up in youth services.

I think the other one I know is found in Catholic hymn books. I went to La Sagesse (recently closed after 100 years) up where you are, although I'm C of E. It used to get a bit confusing at times!

Actually there is an additional tune in Hymns Ancient and Modern Revised, Corona by C Hylton Stewart. But I've never heard it and neither tune nor composer appear to be mentioned on the Cyberhymnal site.

I keep humming (and occasionally breaking into song with) the first verse and chorus of Sara Bareilles' "Love Song" at the moment - probably has something to do with the Youtube video for it being on my Walkman.

Blondie's "Accidents Never Happen" popped into my head for some completely unknown reason the other morning at work, though* - and that was it.

*might have had something to do with a colleague dropping and breaking her saucer.
