But does the BBC licence fee payer benefit from these departures? Ms Douglas, like Mr Fincham, was a talent magnet. She recast a radio network that was in danger of becoming irrelevant to listeners under the age of 40 and grew its audience to more than 13 million by recruiting a fresh roster of younger, smarter presenters, while remaining faithful to her breakfast star Terry Wogan, Britain's most popular radio host.

According to the Independent, Douglas recruited "smarter" presenters. Were the old ones thick?

Smarter? Hah! Don't make me laugh!

And why is the Indie creeping to Douglas anyhow?

Well they are obviously smart in some ways - how else could they get so much money for so little talent?

I left Radio One altogether when Mark Goodier left. I stayed on until sadly John Peel left us.

I occasionally dip in to Radio 1. I quite like Vernon Kay.

I like to tune into Annie Nightingale every now again via the Iplayer feature.

Not that keen on the music she plays if I'm honest but I do like her voice-I would like her to present a request show on Saturday nights on Radio 2-maybe in place of Brand.

Imho she is a true legend.

I stopped listening to radio 1 in my late 20's but did go back a few years later at certain times of the day and at weekends for a short while.
