Had a few days in London last week and managed to get an excellent seat for Jersey Boys. What a great show; the cast were sensational, spot on, and the songs fabulous! I definitely want to go back before the current cast leave. If you are a Four Seasons fan, go see it. If you're not especially a Four Seasons fan - go see it! Check out some clips on youtube.
Also got to see Elena Roger in Piaf. Now, I never really 'got' her in Evita, didn't connect to the show at all (despite Philip Quast and Matt Rawle!) BUT my goodness, she is magnificent in this. Highly recommended.
I tried to get in to Ivanov but even queuing for returns I missed out. Did get to see No Man's Land with Michael Gambon & David Bradley which was...interesting! Great acting, of course but by its nature, very static and, after a busy day, I found myself fighting to keep my eyes open at times!
All in all, a lovely little break - even if I did get snowed on!
Back in September, I was persuaded to go to Zorro with friends and have to say I loved it, partly down to Matt Rawle (again) who I really like, and was obviously having a ball, but also because of the energy of the whole company in the music and dancing. Lots of flamenco and Gypsy Kings, laughter and tears, a real fun, feelgood show. Another one I'm going back to. _________________ "I'm a firm believer in not having to play the hand you're dealt." |

Hi Dottie,
Did you pre book or were you able to get tickets at the last minute? I read somewhere about getting 'Day tickets' for Jersey Boys after 10 on the day but can't remember where now. <idiot>!

Helen, I just turned up at the box office about 1:30. I didn't risk booking in advance as I couldn't guarantee what time I'd arrive (National Express from Gloucester) I was offered G21 which was right in the middle of the front stalls, but it was the Tuesday matinee. Perfect but full price!.
I'm not sure about day tickets as such but there seems to be an offer for tickets at £20 plus booking fee through Metro:
*Mon to Thursday performances tickets available from 10am on the day for £20 (plus booking fee) normally up to £60. Call 0844 482 5152 and quote “Metro”.
Might be worth a try. Let me know if you do use it; I'd be interested to know what seats they offer. _________________ "I'm a firm believer in not having to play the hand you're dealt." |

Thanks Dottie that sounds like it could have been what I saw. We haven't made plans at the moment but thought it would be worth a try.

Everyone should see Avenue Q before it shuts - it's great!
As for Jersey Boys, I'm just not that keen on these Jukebox musicals so will probably give it a miss. Wish I'd seen Zorro in Manchester though... |

Ian, I agree with you about Ave Q! Outrageous but hilarious.
I had my doubts about Jersey Boys to begin with, as I'm also not a fan of Jukebox Musicals, but then I started hearing good things about it and caught snippets on various websites and TV shows which encouraged me even more.
It really is the story of how they became Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and the songs fit seamlessly into the show, mostly being 'performed' in clubs or recording studios in the appropriate timeline, not just stuck in as and when!
And the performances are absolutely superb. Ryan Molloy as Frankie is outstanding but they are all fantastic. Shame there's no London Cast recording though - I'm still singing along to all the youtube clips! _________________ "I'm a firm believer in not having to play the hand you're dealt." |

Do you think there's any chance that Jersey Boys will appear anywhere in the provinces at a later date?
Ian. |

Ooooohhh, I hope so! I don't think it will be for some time though as London is selling so well, but it would be a perfect show to tour.
They might even open a new show somewhere else, such as Manchester, which seems to be a favourite place to have additional runs, although this is purely my own speculation I hasten to add! _________________ "I'm a firm believer in not having to play the hand you're dealt." |

We used to get a lot more tours in the provinces but nowadays it's mostly musicals that are well past their sell-by date. Fair dos to Mary Poppins and The Producers for touring (in a last gasp before amdram) but there's not many other biggies that come out of London anymore. The planned Spamalot tour has, sadly, been cancelled. |
