I also think the drivetime show is good Clive. Just hits the right tone for me and the team mixes nicely. Sadly I don't get to listen as often as I used to but that just makes it more of a treat when I do listen!

Very worrying when he first started. He still shouts a little. Laughing Over all the show is very enjoyable and entertaining.

I see in the Radio Times online that Richard Allinson is covering wk 24th November.

When is Mrs Evans due to pop? Must be cooking well by now?

He has improved, but it is still nowhere near the best show on daytime R2. Wogan and Steve Wright (yes, him!) are much better (don't get to listen to Ken Bruce so I can't really comment much further on him).

Yes he still shouts and struggles to form a sentence without pitching himself too high or too low (it's not 1995 Chris - grow up!) And I've said it before on here - every single song he cuts over it. Sure, other presenters do it occasionally (Steve Wright coming up to 5pm, Wogan before the pips...) but no one comes close to Evans. Then Friday night, what used to be a half decent request show is now just a succession of 'shout outs' and overplayed songs.

He still epitomises 'naffness' and will never escape it, whether it's the wacky features or talking to kids. In his defence, he interacts well with his team - slowly improving with Sally Traffic! But that's about it.

Strange this topic has appeared, as when I was driving home last night I had the sudden realisation that Drivetime seems to be getting good again after a bit of a dip during the summer. He's making me laugh again...

Of course, it could be me that's changed...

I usually hear about half an hour of the show on the way home, but find it enjoyable.
#True, his voice sometimes does rise up quite high when he gets excited, but none of the annoying campness of Russell Brand. And the other contrast with the dreaded Brand, he is NOT seeking to shock!
His conversations with kids are very cute, too

It's funny how we all have different tastes.

I have had occasion to listen to Chris quite a lot recently.

Personally I think the show has dipped in its entertainment value compared to the summer when I last tuned in for a period of time.

HE SEEMS TO BE SHOUTING QUITE A LOT RECENTLY.

I gave up on Drivetime aka the Chris Evans Show after the first week! Razz Luckily BBC Radio Merseyside has a better alternative with Claire Hamilton.

I dont really get a chance to listen much anymore. I did listen over the summer a bit and it sounded like it has jumped the shark, to use that awful expression.

I usually enjoy his shows, great enthusiasm and ideas,

BUT I did switch off when he said they were having a CIN auction Rolling Eyes

One CIN R2 auction is TOO much (I haven't listened to any of that this week)

I felt that way when he came back from his Summer break and did stuff like broadcasting from his mate's hot tub. Self-indulgent, and not great radio.

I used to enjoy the show but the shoutiness and staid format have turned me off lately. They also play rather too much Scouting For Girls for my liking!

As I appear to be the only one here who actually listens to his show... Shocked Confused Crying or Very sad I thought it was good of him to make up the CIN total to £2million at the end of Drivetime.. he offered to pay the £16000 shortfall.

Nice one carrot top!

It was nice of him. Shame the Radio 2 presenters never took the cheque to the TV studios instead two from Take That and Two From Girls Aloud. Bands which are over played on Radio2 Laughing Strange? Rolling Eyes

Well...I was actually on tonight's show! I was the Nick from Glasgow moving to Newcastle but born in Sheffield fella who pledged for the Ting Tings (which, in my defence, was my flatmate's request).... I got to speak to Sally though which was fun. Even if I did sound surprisingly camp... :p

They had been advertised in advance as presenters of the Radio 2 cheque, so they could hardly not do. I daresay Chris would have been able to join in if he had wanted to, but it's not the sort of thing you do, is it? He did the generous deed, it got mentioned, he didn't need to make hay out of it - good on him for what some might think an uncharacteristic piece of restraint and discretion.

I'd rather have Take That and Girls Aloud handing over the cheque than the person they've had in previous years: Lulu. What's she got to do with anything?

Shocked I understand she thinks very highly of you too, Ian

Twenty seven chart hit singles, at least one top ten in each of the last five decades, and an occasional Radio 2 presenter. That for starters is what she's got to do with it.

I'd be amazed if anyone could name 5 of those hit singles (not including the Take That one, 'cos that doesn't count). And her Radio 2 show was terrible. She doesn't even get played much on the station - they should have got Al Stewart to give the cheque! Wink

Ian, I could name 5 of Lulu's hits quite easily. Not sure what that says about me! I used to be antipathetic towards her but I think her longevity has softened my attitude. She can certainlt belt it out, and I'm impressed by her cholesterol level Smile

Me too.. I've always liked Lulu. "The Boat That I Row" and "The Man Who Sold The World" are great tracks.

On the odd occasion when I have caught the driveltime show I find that Evans STILL shouts too much. I prefer my radio aimed at those of a mental age over 35

Terry talks highly about Chris. Trying to warm him in a little and shows the togs he's not that bad? I wonder if he will be lined up to take over Wogan as the new tog?

If Chris Evans goes to Wogan's spot that means someone worth listening to would/might get 'Drivetime' again! I'll be staying with Radio 4 in the mornings either way. Laughing
