The BBC has been fined £95,000 by Ofcom for unfair competitions on Radio 2 and BBC London 94.9FM

The competitions ran on eight editions of Dermot O'Leary's Radio 2 show in 2005 and five Tony Blackburn programmes on BBC London 94.9 in 2005 and 2006.

All were pre-recorded, however, so there was no way to take part in them.

Ofcom ruled these to be "serious" breaches and in a separate report, the BBC Trust ruled audiences were "misled" and said on-air apologies were needed.

I wondered how long it would take for O'Leary's shows to get done. They seemed to have slipped under the radar while Liz Kershaw was taking all the flack for doing exactly the same thing just the once.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lesley Douglas knew of this? I think the licence payer is getting a little sick of this now. BBC needs a good kick up the back side. I think it won't bother Blackburn that much as he's got shows on Smooth and KFLM.

She must have known - it seems to have been BBC Radio policy.

As Liz Kershaw ended up with a suspension, I presume Dermot will be getting some time off. Here comes Zoe :s

The BBC has been fined £95,000 by Ofcom for unfair competitions on Radio 2 and BBC London 94.9FM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the BBC is funded by the licence-payers, doesn't that mean that we're ultimately the ones who are being punished?

There are times when I've felt like I've been punished for the last three or four years. For what yet, I don't know.

Doesn't the government pay towards the BBC? If so they should cut back on the funds with all these fines being dished out.

Ofcom's decision seems totally fair and just to me based on the facts in front of us/them.

But the licence payer is picking up the bill. And any government money comes from our long-suffering pockets, too.

The whole thing is beyond a joke - so basically we, as licence payers, have been conned AGAIN.

You just wonder what the next revelation will be Rolling Eyes

Aye and midweek afternoons have been an almost complete switch-off for me for almost as long, since that Evans bloke was airlifted into the slot following Steve Wright! Rolling Eyes

Yes, three years of steady decline.

I've lost Y100BT, Best of Jazz, Laycock's first half hour, Melodies for You is now a Titchy waffle; and I listened to Radcliffe & Maconie the other evening and I've heard better chat and better music down the pub. Evil or Very Mad

It's sad when you think of the lovely shows that are no more. Maybe R2 should do a new series: These we have Loved and Lost, with Lesley Douglas as Presenter Evil or Very Mad

Ofcom still needs to file the report over the Sachgate affair. More fines from the Licence Payers pockets. Shocked
