I think Chris Hoy is a fantastic sportsman, and really pleased he won Sports Personality, but...a knighthood? Rolling Eyes Way too soon. Steve Redgrave achieved 5 golds at 5 Olympics, and I don't think that Hoy's achievement, although marvellous, can compare.

I think the whole Honours system has become discredited, and dishing out OBE's to actors like Michael Sheen (so he played Tony Bliar Rolling Eyes ) only compounds the view.

I was flabberghasted when I saw Hoy was knighted, just devalues the honour, poor old Brucie has to wait another year, hope he lives to receive it.

A local charity worker here was on the list for MBE, and the Cabinet Office wrote to inform his family in confidence in November. Unfortunately he had died last February Rolling Eyes

I'm pleased about Terry Pratchett getting knighted.

As for the others, well I don't know really, I mean a knighthood for Chris Hoy Confused how come Ben Anislie 'only' got a CBE when he has won three gold medal at three separate Olympics.

No knighthood for Brucie again, I'm beginning to think he has upset someone in high places.

With all this internet campaigns for Bruce Froysth to be Knighted and he's not got a single thing. I heard he may get one in 2010. I hope he's around to see it as you never know whats around the corner. He deserves one before Chris Hoy.

Does anyone know how many Knighthoods went to the real heroes of the Olympics - the Paraplegic athletes?

Maybe Brucie doesn't want one? I always thought that Humph should have been knighted but then I found out he'd turned it down

Greatly admire Chris Hoy but I thought a knighthood was conferred for a lifetime of achievement, which at 32 he has hardly experienced yet.

The official explanation of the failure to knight Bruce Forsyth is that he had a CBE in 2005 so will have to wait at least a standard 5 years. But this is rot, as Elton John got his K just 2 years after the C. I can only conclude that someone in high places is determined that Bruce will not get one, come what may.

Ian.

Bit confused. Why would anyone take against Brucie?

Enjoyed the Bruce Forsythe night last night, what an incredible talent he is.
It's a disgrace he isn't Sir Brucie.

Was watching Michael Palin the other night and thought if anybody deserves a Knighthood .....he does....what a lovely fella.

Perhaps Brucie isn't anybody's favourite.... Laughing

Given the Olympic winners this year, their inclusion in the List was something of a no-brainer. I'm all for "ordinary people" being recognised in this way, but have never been that interested in entertainers and sports personalities receiving gongs. They've no doubt already been feted in their own worlds anyway, why not give the awards to more deserving "ordinary" people in the street who won't have got so much air time over the last 12 months?

I'm now trying to visualise Chris Hoy trying to ride a bike carrying a lance, as would befit a mounted knight.
