This would be ok if we'd seen evidence that the first bail out was starting to work!

It looks like the first wasn't enough. I'm sure Robert Peston will be on the case soon. Laughing

How will we know when it is enough? Will there be a sign? Perhaps a return to lending 125% of property value or a pick up in the sale of Porsches. Laughing

I was watching Brown on Andrew Marr show and mentioning about the banks. I guess the blame has been put on Brown and the last 11 Years of Labour, but China and the US are ploughing more money in than we are. He also said " One Billion of the 12 Billion has been used so far " ...

Actually he goes around asking people to "call me Gordon" Laughing

Anyway the only bank out of this crisis is for people to start saving more

Liam Halligan is right
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/comment/liamhalligan/4213920/What-this-economy-needs-is-for-us-to-spend-some-time-on-saving.html
Unfortunately this will take years to re-balance, but then it took years to get into this mess.

Jeff Randells ad for his new show on Sky News is very adpt. On it, he says people are looking for a sprinkling of magic dust to make the crisis diappear. Rolling Eyes

With GB borrowing such large sums of money, does anyone know who he is borrowing from?

What are the terms of the loans? Rate of interest and for how long?

What happens if the lenders call in the debt?

What collateral have we put up against the loan?

And when the debts have to be rescheduled, as they surely will, what happens when no more money is forthcoming?

Strange that when the policy is to spend our way out of trouble that everyone is starting to cut back on spending ...

What are the terms of the loans? Rate of interest and for how long? Don't know; how long's a piece of string? It's better not to know

What happens if the lenders call in the debt? Hide; it's better not to know

What collateral have we put up against the loan? Apart from the broken gold watch and chain left in the BoE vaults after Gordon sold everything else off five years ago? It's better not to know

And when the debts have to be rescheduled, as they surely will, what happens when no more money is forthcoming? That's the easy question; nobody does know

Strange that when the policy is to spend our way out of trouble that everyone is starting to cut back on spending ... That's because it's our money they're spending

Don't tell me the prize is a Woolworths gift token - I don't want to know.

It's ok - Gordon says that he won't let the economy go down the tubes "on his watch"- he said that with a straight face too.

There's nothing left of our economy to watch.

I see David's lot have nicked my poster idea about babies being born into debt.

A ITV correspondent was told by Gordon Brown to be careful what you say after he said we could go into National Bankruptcy...

Wonder if we could?

Theoretically possible Mark, but there would have to be a lot of other things happen to a lot of other countries first... and by that time it probably wouldn't matter to anyone. We would be in complete meltdown.

Mind you that is where I think we are headed and nothing today will stop that... Remember I said it!

I wonder what the consequences would be if we did go into national bankruptcy? too frightening to think of really but then again, each day the news does seem to get worse..and more worrying.

Maybe it's time to become the 51st State? Confused

Call the IMF in again? Same as what happened last time Labour were in power.

Which American state went Bankrupt? I think maybe a shiver up someones back especially Browns mentioning National Bankruptcy may start the ball rolling. I hope this is the last time we see an injection of money?

What would happen if we did go Bankrupt? Shocked

The government would run out of money, so civil servants, teachers, police, etc wouldn't be paid. Neither would pensions or other benefits.

But, as I may have mentioned before (?) a lot of other things will have gone wrong beforehand with 'bankruptcy' just a theoretical financial end point.

My Brother in Law is currently organising an "approved" mortgage from Northern Rock... I say currently, it's been going on since November!
He can afford it and it's only £150k against a £250k property but they seem to be throwing spanners into the works at every opportunity!

Far be it for us to cast aspersions on your Brother in Law's credit worthiness...
