I liked the quote on the R2 News from a spokeswoman from some "finger wagging" institution that the remark "appears to be disturbing".
Maybe she'll be able to form a clearer opinion when 30.000 people have rung in to complain.  |

Sky News first broke the News on Saturday Night. They were milking it.. Who the hell does he think he is using this language. Whether it's been taking out of context he's third in line. I think he's a bloody fool saying these words whether it was 3 minutes ago or 3 years ago. He should use some common sense. Clarence House apologising is disgusting he should at least go on screen and apologise without sitting behind the crown.
At the end of the day I'm sure this will blow over, but he's tarnished himself a little. |

Mark, I completely and utterly disagree with your reaction. Harry was at the time a lad larking around with his army mates, and the object of the so-called insult took it all in the spirit it was intended. The objects of derision should be the swine who sold the tape to the NOTW, and that comic. Also, the BBC should be ashamed of itself for the over-the-top- coverage it has given to this non-story. Had to laugh at Witchell outside St James' Palace last night No doubt he was expecting Harry to come out and give him an exclusive!

Put yourself amongst any group of the Armed Forces and you’ll have a Jock, a Taff, a Paddy, a Shiner, a Sharky , a Lofty , a Tiny, a Masha, a Clanky, a Big Jake , a Rattler, a Scouse ,a Geroge, a Del, a Chalky, a Knocker and many many more…the armed forces runs on nicknames….. it wouldn’t work otherwise,

In my time I've been referrred to as a "guilo", "rooinecker", "whitey", "Brit" and "Pom". I didn't bust a gut over it, and I'm not going to start now. People should just stop wearing "political correctness" like a badge.  |

| It's quite interesting how nicknames can change with different departments.... a new chap joined where I used to work, and the guys said to him, what should we call you .. he said .. Oh, dick'll do ... and "Dickledo" it was for the duration of his time with us. |

As a letter in today's paper points out, people from Uzbekistan call themselves Uzbeks, not Uzbekistanis, those from Afghanistan are Afghans, not Afghanistanis, so what is wrong with Paki, or Paks, as The Times of India calls them?
If that is deemed to be so offensive, can we also discourage everyone, particularly Americans, and the media, from calling us Brits?

I think it is the perception of how it has been used over the years. Even if you now tried to say it in an attractive tone it would be taken to be derogatory. But, really, theoretically, and to extend my examples, it should be no different to calling the Scots, Scots (don't call them Scotch, that's their national drink).
Anyway, he said it three years ago. It's mischief-making by the media to bring it up now; haven't they got anything better to worry about at the moment?

Sooty is a TV Character who is yellow and not of an Asian colour. I wonder if he's married to sweep. It's strange why Prince Charles would need to press release this. Publicity stunt to save his son. |

And buried away in the same bulletin was the death of a Royal Marine in the Stan.... to paraphrase a Private Eye column, "Number of pages devoted to Harry's racist slurs by the News of the World = 5, Number of lines devoted to dead British serviceman on same day = 2."
Slow news day for Sky (who probably ran it most) and the BBC, or something that appeals to the left-wing liberal bias that masquerades as a news service nowadays. I still chuckle at their reporters' frustration that they're not able to get into Gaza to parrot the Palestinian side of things - they're no doubt wetting themselves in anticipation of the forthcoming sound-bite of someone complaining that the Israelis are resorting to "Genocide", but in the meantime resorted to non-stories such as finding trace amounts of uranium (virtually normal background amounts, and from DU rounds fired from Merkavas and helicopter gunships) and white phosphorus shells. Very little about Hamas firing rockets from the midst of civilian streets (between 5,000 and 8,000 in the last 2 years depending on your sources), or the fact that said "elected government" can smuggle weapons aplenty into Gaza but necessities such as food, water, medicine and medical equipment - which would no doubt be just as difficult to get through the blockade - don't appear to be high on the terrorists' (sorry, elected representatives') shopping lists.
Is it me?
