So they are listening according to Dale Winton on POTP's 15th February... He happened to mention that they have had a number of emails why the 50's are missed out on the show, so they are going to be introducing them. People power working at last for those who likes the decade. I must admit I did enjoy the tunes very relaxing.

I really enjoyed what I heard of the 50s chart, I hope they'll do more...

Star track for me was "To Know Him is to love Him" by the Teddy Bears.

I loved this track, or should I say large 78 with a black and silver label ( London?) and "Don't You Worry my Little Pet" on the B side!

and me only 7 at the time... Razz

Alan Freeman used to have 50's years on POPTP's

Radio 2 lost focus for a few years.. They were trying to make it into a new Radio One. I think they need to adventure a little more. I hope under the new management things will start to change. Especially the music as they seem to play the same 2 or 3 songs from likes of ABBA and ABC. This is the BBC and shouldn't be tied down to what commercial radio are like. I wonder which shows will start to feature some 50's tunes into there playlists?

Any year from 1952/3 (the time of the first charts) to 2008 should be eligible for inclusion.

Thanks for the info. I may employ Listen Again sometime this week.

Ian.

Fantastic news, I hope this is a permanent feature and not just because it's Fifties week.
I agree with Mark that Radio 2 needs to get back more to what it was with a great variety of music.
I didn't start buying music until the Eighties when I reached my teens but now I love 50's 60's and 70's music more than the more modern stuff.
You only have to listen to the non stop oldies to hear that people love all types of music regardless of their age.

I don't suppose the new gaffer has had time to make his mark yet, but perhaps he's going to demonstrate a more enlightened approach to programming? I can't help feeling that Johnnie Waker's fab 60s show on Saturday eves wouldn't have happened if Madame Douglas were still in the hot seat. Maybe that was his first programming decision? If so, more please! Smile

It's about time Pick of the Pops gave the 1950s some limelight. The era of rock n roll will always sound fresh.
