After Radio 2, I listen to BBC Radio Merseyside the most. There are some great programmes such as Spencer Leigh's 'On the Beat' for example. Last night I went to the recording of a show featuring Billy Kinsley formerly of The MerseyBeats, Liverpool Express etc in the 'Performance Space' as it is called. Billy sang the expected hits and other songs of The Beatles, The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly. A female student from LIPA* who is originally from Nashville USA was the opening act and she was very good too. (*Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.) As you may know, Paul McCartney is the main patron of the college that encourages young musical talent from all over the world. The concert will be broadcast on Saturday evening 5.30pm to 7pm, and on 'Listen Again' from Monday 23rd February. |

Hi Becky. Yes Frankie Connor does a good oldies show on Sundays usually, from 3pm to 5pm, but as with Spencer's Saturday programme, sometimes they are cancelled as all wavelengths feature football instead. So much for choice! Spencer is scheduled for 6.30pm to 8pm, but on non football weeks it becomes 5.30pm to 8pm. I don't think Frankie is on this weekend either! |

Cheers, Briant.....wasn't sure if that was a special Spencer Leigh show on at a different time to his normal one ....
I used to listen to a show, quite a while ago, that featured just one band from the sixties every week .....i think it was hosted by Bernard Wrigley on a Sunday afternoon.
I particularly remember one featuring Billy J Kramer and The Dakotas.
What i'm not sure is whether it was on Radio Merseyside or Radio Lancashire.....perhaps,with you being a regular listener, you'll remember if it was on Radio Merseyside |

Hi Becky. That would be on Radio Lancs. Funnily enough, I was on a Juke Box Jury with Bernard Wrigley at Radio Merseyside last year. Like me, he is a big Bob Dylan fan. In fact three out of four of the jury were. We had to review the Dylan album of outtakes. One of the jury had even bought the 'rip-off' CD that cost about £90 just for a third lot of outtakes and a fancy book of record sleeves. Bernard has a website and there is some funny stuff on it from 'Dinnerladies' as well as his 'stand up' routine.
Bernard goes into the chemist's shop.
Bernard: Do you stock Viagra?
Assistant: Yes we do.
Bernard: Can you get it over the over the counter?
Assistant: Only if I take two!
