What are you giving-up for lent this year?
Lent starts on Wednesday 25th Feb ( Ash Wednesday) and runs until Saturday 11th April (46 days or the traditional 40 days not counting Sundays) this year – Easter Sunday is 12th April.
It’s important to give up something that means a lot to you (well I think it is;- giving up chocolate isn’t really enough). This year, I’m giving up all outgoing electronic communication. E-mail, Phone, Mobile Phone and posting on the Internet. It's going to be tough. I’ll be writing lots of letters though |

I won't be posting on here Nod, from Tuesday evening, and that is going to be really hard at first- there'll be lots of cold turkey to go through, but I will be writing to some of you by snail mail each week with an update on my rehab.
It's not like I can blog or twitter my progress is it And the pictures I take of Wellies opening, I'll have to put on a CD then snail mail to another member to post for me.
The things we'll agree to for a bar of chocolate |

Colby, you’ve given up giving up on a full time basis, and stick to that religiously – that’s quite a commitment for an atheist. You’d do well with religion.
On the upside, my hubby is starting a sabbatical in two weeks time, he’s not had more than a week off in one go for the last seven years – so a three-month break is gonna be fab!! A proper holiday that includes weekends. Yes!! While I’m “off air” on the interweb (it’s only 6 weeks) I will be writing (proper letters) to my favourite Radio 2 shows: Alex Lester of course (goes without saying really), Jeremy Vine, Chris Evans, and the woman behind the music on the Sarah Kennedy show- cos she is fab!
I tried that argument MiS , Hubby was was having none of that. |

I haven't given up giving, I just don't share a belief in any fantasy figure commonly referred to as "god" by many human beings.
I don't "give up" things that often (I don't have a particular need) but I do give in all sorts of ways. I consider that more important.
I'm not "religious" about not giving up. I just don't do stuff like Lent, or Ramadan, or whatever one wishes to call it. There's a difference. |

Wow! That's one heck of a thing to give up, Rachel, even for just six weeks. It's hard to imagine life without such easy remote communications, but we did all manage it until relatively recently - we didn't have a phone at home until I was 14, I didn't get a PC and internet until I was nearly 50
We shall, I shall, miss you terribly - the place here will actually resemble a church in Lent, without flowers. And as for something to give up personally, there's nothing that can match that - I could say television (in fact I'd happily live without that) but the family won't join; I don't drink or smoke. What else is there? _________________ Ron

I didn't say you'd given up giving. I said, you'd given up giving up. It was just a little joke No biggy really and no need for the athiest proclamation. |

Ah sweet. Ron , the six weeks will fly by... in a wooosh ... what was that kind of way. You'll see
Usually I give up something easy like salt or sugar but that doesn't really help anyone. The spare time I'll have this year will go to a useful cause. If you don't drink, smoke or watch TV that much - perhaps you could give up motorised transport? |

The "atheist proclamation" was, in itself, a little joke. However, I do believe that giving is more important (to me) than giving up. |

Well this is it - that moment has arrived, like my hangman arriving at my cell door. Back on April 12th - which I think is the day we put sprouts on for Christmas..... How cool is that - an easy way to remember this year- pop the sprouts on for Christmas at Easter! Yay!!

She could well be... so we'd better be on our best behaviour!
Actually, I have had word, via the Royal Mail's owl, snail and shoe leather service. Rachel is very busy, and is missing us all terribly but bearing up under the strain.
Only five and a half weeks to go - Keep smiling _________________ Ron
