According to Paul on Elaine show he's covering at present he's joining Radio 2 in April on a full time basis. He wouldn't say which show he will be doing.
A guess it could be a new Sunday Show or the 9pm Saturday show which is occupied by Pirate Johnnie Walker? Looks like some changes for April!!

I was thinking today that it's time they changed Michael Ball. He was OK at the beginning but of late he's gone very bland, a bit "me-me-me". That's a programme I can take or leave nowadays. Maybe POG's in for that slot.

Dermot O'Leary's Show on a Saturday afternoon is an excellent show and certainly should not be chopped or dropped from the schedules.

I am hoping it with be the dire Sunday Love Songs Show with Steve Wright.

That's nice, I like Paul O'Grady but can't abide musicals so I don't tend to listen to him. Hopefully he is being given a new show to present, good luck to him.

Seems to me Paul doesn't like doing pre-recorded radio shows. I don't know if Elaine is live every Sunday, but Paul is.

But why does it have to be a comedian? Why not find an actual DJ to present these shows? Whoever was it that told the BBC powers-that-be that comedians make good DJs? There wasn't a comedy show on Saturday evenings before that Douglas woman foisted Russell Brand onto an undeserving audience. As I remember, there was Stuart Maconie's original Critical List followed by an 'In Concert' show (recorded live gig) and / or documentary. Since Brand's departure, Saturday evenings have become much more like they used to be. Proper DJs (Alex Lester & Johnnie Walker) doing great shows. Lets not forget Suzi Quatro's great show before 'Pirate' Johnnie Walker and Bob Harris after JW.

How do we know Pirate Johnnie Walker show is been dropped? It's speculation which show Paul is hosting.

Let's hope O'Grady takes over Sunday Love Songs but knowing Radio 2 he'll just replace a good show instead. I'm worried for the future of Friday Night Is Music Night (the BBC Concert Orchestra don't seem to have any recordings lined up).

The Saturday evening 9pm to 11pm slot comes free in April, when Paul O'Grady becomes full time. Given that Radio 2 have previously tried to make this a comedy slot, I can imagine them trying again.

Don't be fooled by the tea-time television presenter side of Paul O'Grady. Dont' forget, he used to be Lily Savage, who had some pretty outrageous humour live and when broadcast after the watershed. In a Richard and Judy interview (when they still did "Good Morning" on ITV) he said that he instinctively knew how far he could push things for each audience.

Sounds like a safe pair of hands to me. And somehow, I suspect that this would appeal to the current Radio 2 management.

So without saying whether I think it's a good idea or not (I'll leave that until I've heard the programme), I will say that I can see why this slot would make some sort of sense.

I just hope that if Paul O'Grady does get a regular Radio 2 show that he manges to present it in a better temper than he seemed to be in on Sunday. I thought he was distinctly grumpy.

Thanks to his fronting the X-Factor and being Simon Cowell's golden boy, Dermot is now considered to be a bankable media asset, so R2 would be silly to push him sideways. For that reason, I can't see him being replaced unless he himself calls it a day in favour of a more lucrative career elsewhere.

I hope they leave Sunday Brunch alone it really brightenens up a Sunday morning imo. I like listening to Paul O'Grady on E.P's show.

Although I heard Paul mention, several times, that he was going to have a regular Radio2 show I didn't hear him say why the time and type of show couldn't be announced. I have to admit that although I used to enjoy the EP show when he was presenting it I am finding him increasingly irritating (almost as irritating as EP in fact). I do hope he won't be replacing Michael Ball.

Perhaps this a good reason to remove the requirement that currently seems to be in place that all new Radio 2 / 6 music presenters have to be some sort of celeb. These celebs tend to move on when a new project comes along that utilises their original talents, which probably wasn't playing records on the radio!

That's true, but they weren't the 'one hit wonder' type of celebs or they had done a bit of broadcasting in the past.

On another note, it would seem that Suzi Quatro's Saturday show is coming to an end, as she made reference that 'there aren't many left now' this Saturday gone. So read what you like into that!

My guess is that it will finish when Pirate Johnnie Walker does and a new schedule will happen then.

Agree with you about the rest though, wish they would just announce it so we know what's happening. That's if THEY know of course. Wink

I'm not sure what "brushed with the same act" means (tarred with the same brush, perhaps?) but it sums the situation up quite perceptibly.
