Not actually in administration, but perhaps the saddest sign of the times so far:-
Since it opened in 1966 Nottingham's Selectadisc has been one of the best independent record retailers in the country, famed far beyond its home (for many years there was also a branch in London's Soho).
Over the years I spent more time in its rather scruffy insides poring over album sleeves and singles that the likes of HMV (outside of Oxford St) never bothered with. They did a roaring trade in second-hand as well, although I was never attracted to that myself.
Founder Brian Selby, who couldn't look less like the sort of person you'd imagine as the owner of a legendary, up-with-the-current-sounds shop, retired two years ago and sold the business to its manager, but competition from online retailers and the high costs of maintaining a city centre spot have meant that it can't trade profitably (in all honesty I don't think it ever made Selby a rich man).
