I'm going quite early to bed during my current illness but last night I lay and watched Question Time--quite a good edition as they go. I would normally have applied for tickets to go the the Newcastle recording next Thursday but don't feel quite up to it at present.

My warm appreciation of Vince Cable's contributions were slightly offset by continual reflection of his resemblance to Harry Corbett, original presenter of Sooty.

Then, when the Bishop of Croydon--clearly an exiled Scouser--was interviewed on Matthew Bannister's show today, he kept reminding me of Les Dennis.

Can anyone else think of similar resemblances?

Ian.

Funny you should say that. This morning when I saw Jason Donovan on the TV I remarked how you never see him and John Lloyd (Tennis coach) in the same room.

Hope you're feeling better soon. Wink

I also thought that John Barrowman sounded just like Cliff Richard on "What about us?"

Who recorded that song originally?.... I'm having an alzheimer moment. Crying or Very sad

Keane's latest single 'Better Than This' has often been compared to a Sparks track, but I'm not so sure that it isn't Justin Hawkins (once of The Darkness) that sings on it!!

Noddy Holder on the Radcliffe & Maconie show once likened David Mitchell from 'Peepshow' and 'That Mitchell & Webb Look' to 'Stuart Maconie's little brother'!

Gary Barlow's speaking voice always reminded me of Wallace (Peter Sallis) in the Wallace & Gromit films, and while I'm on the subject of Aardman Animations, does anyone else think Anika Noni Rose (Mma Makotsi in The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency) looks like the character Jane Horrocks voiced in Chicken Run?

Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory (Jim Parsons) looks like Alexander the meerkat in the Compare The Market ads, and speaks similarly to Lars Ulrich, Metallica's drummer!

Is it Justin Hawkins in the Guitar Hero ad dancing and miming to Bob Seger's 'Rock & Roll'?

Has anyone seen Rosemary Shrager (School For Cooks) and Drew Carey (Whose Line Is It Anyway USA) in the same room?

Jake in Two & A Half Men is the double of Brian Wilson in the early 60's.

Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes) could be the daughter of Nina Wadia (Eastenders, Goodness Gracious Me).

My mum once thought Brian Matthew on SOTS was Jeremy Vine!

Michael in 'The Office; An American Workplace' (Steve Carell) has a look of and speaks like Alice Cooper!

Susan Boyle of Britain's Got Talent infamy reminded me of Terry Jones in face; thank goodness she didn't sing like him!

Listening to a Bob Luman CD from the late fifties, one could easily mistake it for an early rock'n'roll effort from Cliff Richard. I definitely now think that Bob was a vocal influence on Cliff after hearing these tunes.

A local DJ here in Liverpool often says that Shaking Stevens got his singing style from Rocky Burnette's hit song 'Tired of toeing the line!'

Best place to compare the 2 is by listening to track 13 on Shaky's 1988 album "A Whole Lotta Shaky" which is a cover of Rocky Burnette's hit song 'Tired of toeing the line!'

BTW It's Shakin' - NOT Shaking! Laughing

The Shakin' Stevens song that was likened to Rocky Burnette's 'Tired Of Toeing The Line' was 'You Drive Me Crazy'.

Alan Carr sounds like Gretchen Franklin (Ethel Skinner in Eastenders); shouldn't he have begun his show with the Sweet's 'Little Willy' in tribute to Ethel Skinner's dog?

Lee Mead (Any Dream Will Do/Mr. Van Outen) always looked like he could have been Alistair McGowan's son, which would have been handy for the 'Dot Cotton & Son' sketches he used to do!

Anne Marie Duff, while narrating 'Pop Britannia', sounded like she was going to launch into the 'Mmm-Danone' jingle; speaking as if she was selling a yogurt.

Thanks to a biog of Adam Sandler for this one - Axl Rose and Edith Bunker from 'All In The Family'!

During the 'Bowie' episode of Flight Of the Conchords, I thought Jermaine Clement, as David Bowie in Brett McKenzie's dream, spoke like Harry H. Corbett as Harold Steptoe!

Speaking of Harold Steptoe, my mum said Danny in 'Withnail & I' sounded like him.

'The English Patient' had its pretentiousness deflated in this house by the thought that Ralph Fiennes in the flashback scenes resembled Ron Mael of Sparks.

Cue for me and my mum to simultaneously launch into 'This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us'...

There was also a Ron Mael lookalike on 'Animal Hospital' - he didn't get to work on any 'elephants and tacky tigers', sadly.

Clive Warren used to sound like Mark Goodier when they were both on Radio 1.

You're right about Clive Warren and Mark Goodier!

I noticed on 'I've Never Seen Star Wars', Mark Goodier's 'He's The Man Who's Got The Best Music' jingle was reworked to insert John Humphreys's name!

When my nephew first started working at a school, the children reckoned he looked like Mark Lamarr - it was around the time Shooting Stars was first on, and so there'd be children singing 'he's a cheeky Cockney conman' as he passed in the corridor!

As I write I've also got Steve Hackett's 'Tokyo Tapes' CD on. When my mum first saw the video, she thought Ian McDonald on King Crimson resembled the Leeds United manager of the time!

I can't remember the manager's name, but he is briefly seen in the movie 'Fever Pitch' during a montage put to Tim Hardin's 'Hang On To A Dream'.

It's also come to me that Eoghan Quigg, the X-Factor contestant Harry Hill always mocked, resembles Bronagh Gallagher from 'The Commitments'! She was on 'So Hard To Beat', BBC-4's programme about rock and pop in Northern Ireland.

A conference with my mum revealed that the football manager I was thinking of was David O'Leary!

Regina Spektor and Kristin Schaal (Mel in Flight Of The Conchords) could be sisters. Her big song in last week's episode, 'Why Can't Real Life Be More Like My Dreams' could pass for one of Spektor's!

Michael McIntyre was on 'This Morning' and he's got a smile like Mike Myers had when he was Wayne Campbell in 'Wayne's World'. My mum likens McIntyre more to Stuart Maconie.

I had the Third Rock From The Sun episode on where Dick (John Lithgow) goes to the women's group Mary Allbright attended, in full drag so as he could observe what went on.

He was a dead ringer for Fergie - the Duchess of York, not the Black-Eyed Peas singer.

I had the DVD of 'Withnail & I' on and my mum was convinced it was Harry H. Corbett as Danny (actually portrayed by Ralph Brown).

There's someone at the drama workshops I attend who's a Withnail lookalike too.

I saw the movie 'Telstar' yesterday and was struck at how much Con O'Neill as Joe Meek sounded like James Corden as Smithy in 'Gavin & Stacey'! An Uncut reviewer also compared O'Neill to Rob Brydon as Uncle Bryn in the same series!

James Corden was also in the film, portraying the drummer Clem Cattini. The actor portraying Geoff Goddard had a sinister quality that also reminded me of David Walliams, particularly the man who asks for something in the shop that the shopkeeper doesn't have to hand!

On seeing the poster for Year One, starring Jack Black and Michael Cera, I initially thought, 'what's Jennifer Saunders doing with Jack Black?' because of Cera's long blond wig.

David Johansen (New York Dolls) could be the twin of Linda Robson now.

On 'Make 'Em Laugh' one week, Paul Lynde was featured, and he is best known over here as the voice of The Hooded Claw in 'The Perils Of Penelope Pitstop'.

When Paul Gambuccini first started broadcasting on Radio 1, my brother asked, 'Why is The Hooded Claw hosting a show on Radio 1?'
