I can't wait Toggy. The last fortnight has been awful, I've not bothered listening some days.

I only listened to two R2 shows last week - SOT60s and SOT70s. Most of what's left is just rubbish. |

I don't think Ken should be allowed any more holidays until they come up with a better replacement. Why can't we have Aled or Alex or even Alice Richardson? _________________ MiS |

Aled was certainly free - "A few meetings only this week so having some time off. Got some new songs to learn for the forthcoming Australia tour." _________________ Ron |

Excellent idea.
Thankfully he's back this week to save us from ZB. |

Mr Allinson was on his Hols and he would have been better. Even Lynn Parsons would have been good. Alex Lester, Stuart Maconnie, Dermot and Aled used to cover. I think Zoe would have been better covering Drivetime anyone better than Tarby. |

We've been over on Absolute Radio with Christian O'Connell. We listen to him instead of CE, and it's been no problem extending our listening throughout ZB's slot. (And Chris Tarrant, and Liza Tarbuck.....)
To be honest, I prefer a bit less chat and a bit more music than CO'c but at least he's quite subtle and funny and it's not all about him. _________________ Minx

Ken played Elvis today, he must have recorded hundreds of songs that Ken or Gary Bones could pick from.
Have a guess which one was played?
Surprise surprise it's "A Little Less Conversation".
Why is it played?
Oh yes I know it's because it's a dance remix by JXL.
How ridiculous is it, that Ken will only ever play 1 record by a massively popular artist, with a wealth of recorded work? |

There are lots of cases like this on the radio. Another that springs to my mind is that when a Manfred Mann's Earthband track is played, the chances are it'll be 'Blinded By The Light'. You might be lucky & hear 'Davy's On The Road Again' and if the producer's in a really good mood you may just get 'Joybringer'. Manfred Mann have done much more than those in his Earthband incarnation. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

I have to conclude that you devoted R2 listeners really are gluttons for punishment putting up with this tedious stuff. With the exception of one or two regular programmes on the station I jumped ship for the much better alternatives ages ago (starting with R2's Breakfast offering, which is of course truly dire). |

I've listened to Lauren Laverne on 6 Music a lot more since Zoe Ball was standing in for Ken Bruce.
She has children too, but she doesn't rabbit on about them to the point where you wonder if the Three Wise Men were led to the house by a star. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

Ken Bruce is well past his sell by date, he's stale and unoriginal, though I do sometimes like his sense of humour. And as for the dreadful bland music he plays....
I quite like Zoe, she's bubbly and pleasant, though she is a bit of a bimbo. I shall listen to her, though of course the gay disco will always be played so long as the dreadful Gary Bones remains the producer. |

I actually like Zoe and just wish she would bring her Saturday Show producer with her.
Was listening today at work and heard, Marillion, Lee Marvin, Frankie Lymon, Emile Ford, The Clash, Tom Jones, Duran Duran, Dream Academy, Ringo Starr, Paul Anka, and Amen Corner.
You wouldn't hear a mix of records like that in a million years on Ken Bruce's show, which apart from Tracks Of My Years is the most musically unvaried and repetitive show on Radio 2.
I know I go on about him but the man is 17 years older than me so surely he must like some 50s and 60s records instead of Kylie etc all the time!!!
Just listen to the music picked by Alfie Boe on tracks of my years, way better than the majority of stuff on Ken's show, and Alfie's only in his 30's. |

By 6.10 am this morning she had already prattled on about taking her children on holiday herself (Norman obviously had more sense) and the problems of travelling and shopping whilst coping by herself. She has not got a clue. Many single parents manage this year on year without complaint. On their joint incomes she should have taken a nanny.
At 6.55 approx she made some technical blunder, lost her script on the computer and crashed the pipps at 7.00 am with a Tom Jones track.
Could be an interesting fortnight. Sadly I shall be at work and unable to listen. |

Gazmando: I agree, Ken Bruce's show is the most unoriginal, bland and stale show on Radio 2, all that Village People gay 70s disco crap.
To be fair to the old boy though, I don't think he likes the drivel he has to play. He likes Motown and other 60s music but being an establishment figure he's not likely to rock the boat with retirement and fat pension looming. |

Not going on holiday together!! Norman must be busy....This the pipps crashing means she's trying to run the desk. As long as she dosn't take the station off air like last time. |

No necessarily. It might just mean that she's not taking notice of her network timing cues and talking too much (as always).
Still, at that time of the day there are better sources of listening - in addition to the excellent Radio Caroline, there's an English station called Coastline FM which broadcasts from a lovely little hilltop village we've often been to called Frigliana (overlooking Nerja in eastern Costa del Sol) which I like to listen to. The rays of Mediterranean sunshine come out of the speakers (literally - isn't technology wonderful) when I listen to the station and although the station is aimed at expats aged 50+ the presentation is good and the music is much, much better than the tripe played on old-hat Radio 2 these days.
It does therefore beg the question "Why on earth should anyone choose to listen to Zoe Ball on Radio 2?". In fact, once Alex Lester has finished his show, why listen to anything on R2 during weekday daytimes? It's all rubbish! |
