Fate has recently dealt me a cruel and almost unbearable double blow by taking both my beloved Newfoundland dogs within a week of each other.
The younger of the two was rushed to Newmarket for a serious operation which although at first was deemed to be a success, she was re-admitted two days later and passed away following complications.
Just days later, the older Newf was taken to the local vet with a supposed water infection but scans revealed a growth and with her in obvious distress the following day, we had no choice but to have the vet come out to put her to sleep laying in her favourite place... an experience I wouldn't wish on anybody.
I've mentioned in previous posts that I keep myself to myself with really just my wife and the almost constant companionship of our beautiful Newfoundlands.
Two weeks ago, everything in the world seemed right, I couldn't have imagined the heartache my wife and I feel right now.. it' s as if 50% of all that's important to me has gone and the daily routine seems so empty and frankly pointless.
I will return to the board soon but I thought I'd just explain my absence...
Take care all.. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I am so sorry SFF, I think sometimes people don't understand how painful it is to lose a pet, having been there myself I know how you feel.
There is not much I can say that is going to make you feel better, sorry seems so inadequate.
I just want you to know I am thinking of you and your wife at this sad time.
Love and best wishes. |

I'm sorry to hear about this SFF - you had been missed.
I think we feel the loss of dogs more than any other pet, because they are so dependent upon us, a dependency (usually) repaid with a lot of love and loyalty over a long period of time. It's faintly ridiculous to say they're like our children, but they are, and the sudden, unexpected double loss must be terrible - I can't begin to imagine how you feel.
We're thinking of you and will be so glad to see you when you feel ready to come back. _________________ Ron |

I'm so sorry SF. I can't begin to imagine how it must feel but when our cat died it was awful.
You've been missed, so take care and hope to see you on here soon.

Hi Santa
I haven't been on here for a few months and I was very sad to read your message.
Animals are so precious and mean so much to us, they give such undemanding love and friendship. You must be feeling the loss terribly, I know we did when we lost our faithful springer.
Take care and I'm sure everyone here will miss you.

I'm so sorry to hear about the newfies, and hope you start to feel better soon. What's worse about your situation is that you lost them both at the same time, and without much warning so you've got both shock and grief to cope with.
I lost my 2 border collies, one in January 2006 and the second 15 months later, but in both cases knew of their impending demise, which I suppose is marginally better.
But the emptiness of the days that followed the loss of the last one was unspeakable. All pet-owners can identify with the way you are feeling at this moment, and will be thinking of you. Take care mate. And come back soon. _________________ Minx

Anybody who has had and lost a pet will know what you're going through Santa.....to lose two very close together is doubly tragic.....many years after losing our Golden Cocker Spaniel,Lady she is still remembered and talked about very fondly by all my family....
Best wishes to you and your wife

Thank you so much for your kind messages.. I really appreciate all your good wishes and for taking the time to post them.
The last month has been truly horrible for us both with so many painful signs of our Newfs about the place and our comfortable routine completely shattered.
For me, Ron is right, I thought of my Newfs as my family, everything we did was planned around them.
Over the last year or so, I've said that once our Newfs had gone, I'd like to be able to go where and when I liked; with no ties to keep me here.
How wrong I was. We've both decided that we just can't live without two black hairy "bears" laying about the house.
Mrs SFF decided a couple of weeks in the USA would do us both good so we're off on Monday and it looks like we'll have a Newf puppy in about a month with another to follow later in the year.
Thanks again to you all and I'll be back on the board when we return! _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Good to hear from you, I have been wondering how you were bearing up.
I hope you have a great time in America, I am glad to hear of your pending new arrivals, I'm sure they will help to ease the pain of your losses.
When our Persians Dudley and suki passed away we both said we would never get another cat as we 'couldn't go through all that again' well that lasted about 6 weeks, the house was just too quiet without a furry friend and we now have not one but two Bengals
We don't think of the Bnegals as replacements for our departed friends as they are still fondly remembered and very much missed, they do help to ease the loss though and yes I think of them as part of our family.
Best wishes and hope to see you back here when you get back from America, take care. |
