Sounds pretty amazing, Helen. I didn't realise you were there so recently. The closest I've got is walking by Portland Place with my portable radio in my ears - sad, but I had to do it |

Not really, I know what you mean though.
Oh I forgot that the first time Paul Jones came in to the studio as I think he was recording his Blues show in that studio. He looked really great. I remember saying to producer Becky 'that is Paul Jones isn't it?' That's sad as well but I had his autograph from Manfred Mann days!

Someone last week asked about a song. It was in fact "The Sick Note". the Dubliners did a brilliant version of it
The one paul played today was by some guy called Murphey. a weak singer- not a patch on the dubliners |

The Dubliners sing it, in their own inimitable style, which is fair enough.
Noel Murphy's is more the folk-singer's monologue
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWeXpNyqOrU
The origin of the song is quite interesting -

Not keen on Paul's witterings but he does play some good music.
Carly Simon's Moonlight Serenade on today's show was worth waiting for. Reminds me of Ed Stewart's selection, nice for a sunny Sunday late afternoon while you're cooking dinner!

Agreed Becky! I said to O/H I must tape them from Listen Again or make a note and put the tracks together on a playlist.

I love Brian Wilson's work (not just with the Beach Boys but his more recent stuff) and although I'm aware that his major inspiration was the music of Gershwin (in addition to the Four Freshmen barber shop choir in the Beach Boys' formative years) I didn't expect to like what I've heard of the new album.
But I love it!!! |

Hi folks,
I'm afraid I can't stand POG on the T.V. Too manic/ childish for my taste, however, I have, on occasions, listened to his radio show on Sundays and I've enjoyed his choice of music /presenting style...
So he should stick to radio, IMHO...

Becky you've just read my mind! It's been fantastic, I don't think I've sung a long to so many songs in ages. Started off with You Won't Find Another Fool Like Me! Loved the Cilla 3 in a row as well, not the usual ones you hear.
I love Joyce Grenfell as well!
Great one to end with as well as I type, Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel.

Yep, I was watching that Downtown Abbey nonsense on ITV then switched onto Radio 2 at 6PM. A very enjoyable show, as usual. He has a nicely eccentric presentation style & an eclectic mix of music |

I agree too.. I'm normally in our kitchen washing up for an hour or so and I always enjoy his show, both the music and his presentation.
Funny really as I used to hate his Lilly Savage drag act back then.. so much so I had to turn over but his radio show and the TV show he did on Channel 4 about 5.30 pm a few years back, are very entertaining.
I don't like the Dead Pets section however... _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

I also could never abide Lily Savage & used to turn over channells as soon as she came on.
When I first heard Paul on Radio 2 I had no idea he was Lily Savage, otherwise I probably wouldn't have tuned in.
But I love his radio show. A superb presentation style & a nicely eclectic mix of music.
I havn't seen his TV show, but I did see his interview with Taylor swift on Youtube which I thought was very entertaining |

I've enjoyed his radio show right from the start, and expected to enjoy his TV chat show, but it's been a great disappointment and I won't be watching for the future. He seems to be whipping the audience up into a whooping frenzy all the time, and he goes way OTT for me. His humour on the radio is so much subtler.
And he's a bit too sycophantic for my taste with the silly, self-obsessed guests he has on his TV show, Barbara Windsor and that woman who plays Rita on Corrie, to name just a couple.
He should stick to radio. _________________ Minx

I'm not keen on his TV programmes either and agree about the sycophancy but I did like him as Lily Savage, sometimes....
Yesterday one of the first songs I heard him play was this one .....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt8ZOws4OyA
which I had to look up on the website as I didn't catch the title .....and wouldn't have known what it was otherwise...does anyone know was it a hit?
My son is a fan of some sixties music so I sent it to him and he loves it .... |

I think it was Becky, a fave of mine. It was certainly well played at the time if it wasn't a hit. Jefferson was formerly in the Rockin Berries.

Blimey, I was the last to reply to this thread, and I still had a mother when I posted that reply! Well anyway, I can't help but feel a sense of 'Deja Vu' with today's show, like it's a repeat of a 'Lost TV theme' special that was broadcast a few months ago. Has anyone else noticed this similarity, or even confirm if my suspicions have any foundation. _________________ Lord Evan Elpuss, Your ideal job is a Lumberjack. |

It's a repeat LEE, saw a tweet from Malcolm Prince on Twitter to say Paul is okay. Obviously people must have emailed and tweeted asking if he was ill or something.
