Radio One is in the running again for the UK Station Of The Year, a category it last won at the Sony Radio Academy Awards three years ago.

The BBC station is shortlisted alongside Radio Three and Classic FM for the prize as Radio One breakfast show presenter Chris Moyles has a chance to defend the Breakfast Show Award he won last year.

Radio One and Classic FM will also go head to head in the Music Programming Award in nominations announced tonight for the 27th annual awards at a gathering at Orchid in London’s Piccadilly.

The BBC are nominated for gongs all across the board with Radios One, Two and 6 Music commanding a handful of nominations each. Zane Lowe pops up twice for Radio One, in the Music Programming Award and as Music Radio Personality Of The Year respectively.

A year after winning the category, Planet Rock is again nominated in the Digital Station Of The Year category, it’ll be up against BBC Asian Network and Fun Kids.

The Sonys are only of importance to radio industry folk. They're meaningless for real people.

That said, I'd be happy if Planet Rock won something significant simply because they're a bit different from the bland programming that comes from the likes of GCAP - largely because the station is owned by jobbing musicians. That's gotta be worth an award.

Is this the longest nomination list of any awards? Rolling Eyes

Absurd - a case of give a gong to every one for turning up!
If Chris Evans is personality of the year it's time for us all to give up.

If that's the case, we'll know it's a stitch-up. RIP UK radio!

Blimey!! That is a long list- is it one each?

You know, you shouldn't read too much into these award things- it's just a big party where a lot of people who wouldn't normally want to be in the same room at the same time are enticed there by the chance of an award.

I think the awards are a good boost for people working out on the periphery, such as the smaller stations out in the regions, who do interesting stuff. I have a friend who won a Sony a few yars back for a really good dramatised documentary he did for Radio 4 about a bloke who served in the trenches of WW1. The award was well deserved and to this day he's very proud of it.

The big "names" seem to treat the whole thing like a game, though, and the smugness that arises from winning demeans the whole thing.

I expect it will happen. Why would they choose to unveil the new website on his show?

Radio 2 is fast becoming a 'what is that? for me I'm afraid.

The arrival of Evans, and the way that Johnnie Walker was shoved aside by Lesley Douglas, signalled a decline for me - and I'm not the only one either!

Sad but true, so many of us "core" listeners have been alienated, when Sarah, Ken and Terry go I doubt I'll listen at all...

Radio 2's sole contribution to the comedy category is Miranda Hart's Joke Shop. If that's the best they could muster, it just about says it all.
