John Prescott has been branded one of the laziest MPs. Despite getting a whopping £141k in allowances he missed half of votes in the house of commons, belonged to no committees and didn't even table one written question. A research states his commons record is worse than any other colleague.

Since leaving government as the ex Deputy PM he's coined in as much as £170k for private speaking, book deals, TV and Radio shows.

His pledge when he stood down was never to speak against the government. This is why he doesn't speak in the commons.

But does he run his constituency well? Does he take up key issues on behalf of his constituents and help to resolve their problems? Can and should an MP's "performance" be measured by the number of questions he/she tables in the House?

My MP seems to do a good job. He lives and works in his constituency and seems to get things done quite efficiently even though it's his first term in office - yet I'm not sure he tables many questions or sits on more than one committee. So if I feel he's representing my interests properly in the Commons isn't he doing his job properly? Perhaps it's the same for Prescott, who knows.

When we wrote to our MP about our local hospital and the threat to close it, he replied saying he wasn't our MP, he certainly is Rolling Eyes

Obviously doesn't sound like a very good MP if he doesn't know the boundaries of his own constituency!
