This week for Sarah Kennedy. He's not to bad. Only one problem, he doesn't say what music he's just played or playing.

He sounded OK, certainly better than a lot of standins we've had recently.

Thought it was funny how he made his opinions obvious when doing the newspaper review - Sarah always get criticised for that!

I only listened from 6.40 but I'm sure he DID credit artists.

I only caught the last 45 minutes or so, but I thought he was quite professional and sounded very relaxed. Of course, he is a seasoned presenter, (not a comic or a "celeb") so why shouldn't he? I liked him, and would prefer listening to him standing in rather than Richard Allinson.

I only caught the last 35 mins or so, but I thought he was OK in the job. Almost as good as Richard Allinson, really.

He did announce the songs. So I take that back. I said he did Breakfast radio about 30 years ago? Idea Very Happy It was a very enjoyable show. It does seem he will be another stand in with his own BBC email address. That means in the past year Radio 2 have employed

Zoe Ball
Liza Tarbuck
Emma Forbes
Alan Carr
Richard Madeley

Meaning there is plans to use these across the network. Emma is currently got a show. Noooo Richard Madeley for Breakfast? Maybe?

Well I wasn't too impressed, I would definitely prefer to listen to Richard Allinson. RM might improve as the week goes on I suppose.

Heard your name read out by RM, Mark. Fame at last, will you be selling your story to the Mail and appointing Max Clifford? Laughing

Mark's name can quite often be heard mentioned, MiS.

Nearly as frequently as Chuffer Dandridge!

The difference is that the wheels on a bus go round and round. Easy!

The seats are more comfy and you get a foot rest & food tray on a coach?

I've tried, really I have, but I can't warm to Richard Madeley. Yes, I know the sagas of Sarah Kennedy's life can get a little tedious, but at least you can associate with them. Richard's first story was about what a PR person said to him about not winning at an award ceremony and it's not really got better since then.

He talks about going to St Lucia like it's a trip to Southend (that was another story about a PR person, too) - boy, I would love to have the money and time he has to visit places like that.

He's using far too many long words for that time of the morning. Not that I don't understand him, because I do, it's just that I don't want to work that hard as I'm coming too.

On the evidence of this week so far, I've concluded:
a) Richard is a journalist, and a better one than he's sometimes given credit for, but he's more broadsheet than tabloid.
b) He's lost touch with the things that interest his audience.
c) He and Judy need each other to retain the "common touch"; neither seem to do so well when working alone. Alone, Richard lacks warmth.

I enjoy Richard as a guest on various programmes on Radio 2, but I don't want to listen to him present, I'm afraid.

Rob.

Yes, I've enjoyed listeing to him this week. Much better than the incumbent, that's for sure. Well done Richard.

he did say the other day that the music was nothing to do with him, or maybe that was just the choice.

What difference does it make, do you expect to see 7" singles lying around ?

I expect its all computerised these days, scheduled up and all at the press of a button, the music stills sounds the same. who ever pressing the button

I'm enjoying his show, not sure as a permanent feature but I like the relaxed style and his occasional personal opinion, and not dominated by texting drivel. Very Happy

The running order is put together by dragging and dropping all the bits into the right order (music, trails, jingles). All a presenter or studio manager (or whoever's driving the desk next door) has to do is to hit the "next event" button.

It's such a pity that the list of available sources from which they drag each item is so limited!

Yes I was amazed when I think it was CE who mentioned about 40,000 choices which doesn't sound many to me for a BBC national radio station.
My ipod has 17,500 tracks on it and thats only what I like.

Yes, but your iPod holds only highly compressed MP3 tracks (probably at around 128kbps maximum, I would guess) whereas the system that is centrally accessible to R2 is more sophisticated than iTunes and holds files at a much higher bit-rate - probably 256kbps or even 384kbps, and not MP3 either.

Johnnie Walker sometimes is able to find music to add to the shows playlisted songs. It's more than just pressing a few buttons. I think the jingles and trailers have to be put into a box on the screen, as you can tell Ken Bruce sometimes forgets to do that Laughing

All my tracks are at 244kBits/s, Fraunhofer, Highest Quality, I use a rate where I was hard pressed to tell the difference between them and the original CD most of the time, but that's irrelevant I was just commenting on the number of tracks available. Very Happy

Sarah back on Tuesday; Bank Hol!

Have to say RM wasn't as bad as I feared, although he can be a bit patronising and goes on too much about his jet set lifestyle. Thought it was funny he offered to buy us all an ice cream in Cornwall!!
