Did anyone catch Alan Titchmarsh's show on New Year's Eve? I listened to most of it whilst getting ready to go out and I thought it was wonderful. I also loved Alan's talk in between the music he played.

I'm looking forward to hearing him on Sunday evenings.

At last, Lesley Douglas actually makes a good signing to Radio 2!

Scott I am flabbergasted that you enjoyed it!

There were bits I liked but quite a lot I thought as being a bit sombre. All in all I preferred last year's, but maybe it was my mood yesterday.

I think it would have been better on later in the day as well.

I do enjoy Alan's little quotes though!

Scott,

I'm listening to it right now! Very 'Melodies For You' so far, so no complaints.

Hi Helen,

Indeed the show was a bit sombre but it was relaxing for a Sunday afternoon. I listened to most of it during getting ready to go out (yes, it does take me 2 hours to get my face on! Laughing Laughing ).

I think Alan Titchmarsh will be a welcome change to Sunday evenings. I enjoyed his little talks and dry wit in between the music played. I shall give him a listen once he takes up full residence on Sunday evenings.

He's just like that when you meet him as well Scott, a genuinely nice guy.

I admit that I was never a fan of him on Gardener's World but I like him much more now. One of the very few good signings made by Lesley Douglas if you ask me.

Does Alan Titchmarsh live near you, Helen?

No I think he lives in Hampshire (?). When he left Gardeners World I remember him saying he was moving house and he would have a new garden. It was his own that was used on the show.

I met him when he did a book signing at our local bookstore. The crowds and queue (over a 100 according to the local rag!) had gone when I got there so he was able to talk.

Helen,

I listened to much of Alan's show on Listen Again this afternoon, enjoyed it very much. He shares the opinion of many on here that standard verions of songs get overplayed and, like Desmond, he likes to play the rarer versions.

Bit of a shocker when he played Deanna Durbin's 'Nessun dorma'. I had no idea she recorded that, in Englsh too Laughing Hope he takes advice from Desmond and just plays one shocker per show.

Had to laugh when he congratulated himself for playing a Vivaldi guitar concerto movement rather than something by Rodrigo. Doesn't he know that ClassicFM plays a Vivaldi guitar movement (usually the same one) EVERY DAY, almost?

Missed the show (houseful at the time!). How can I find its playlist?

Ian.

Ian,

I haven't found a playlist but listen again allows you to skip every 5 mins so you can almost get a playlist that way Smile

I'm not sure I could enjoy Alan's mutterings for two hours every week but, like Desmond, he does play interesting music
