Blimey!!!

Exactly what lots of people post about and ..........looks left , looks right ... looks under the stairs ..... but no........... zip.....

It was quite interesting ... someone even managed to say live on air that Chris Evans is a dreadful presenter. He was of course just giving his opinion.

Surprisingly little or no mention of 6 music on there, especially considering the ongoing furore over George Lamb.

Interesting. Lots of sympathy for people's views from the man from the BBC Trust, but he doesn't actually run the station so can't commit to any of it!

** The marginalisation of specialist music to the late evening, and that strange bout of schizophrenia in the schedule that sandwiches Desmond Carrington, Mike Harding etc between Chris Evans and Radcliffe & Maconie.

** The withdrawal of serious (sic) classical music from the schedule. A small hint that some areas of the genre which Radio 3 does not cover (eg, light music) might be given a little more time.

** The carrying of too much trivial news, and too many in-house trailers.

** The feminist card - no female voice on daytime Radio 2. Reference again to Zoe Ball: I reckon she's a shoo-in to a regular slot somewhere pretty soon.

** The complaint about bringing in too many celebrity presenters, rather than experienced radio ones, but including Chris Evans, who is the latter, rather deflated the value of the person's point, because they rushed to point that out.

** Catering to the grey market - Jeremy said if they want Sinatra/lounge music they have to go to Saga (shows how up-to-date he is!).

** Someone actually complained about the removal of the Comedy Hour from Saturday, and there was an embarassing silence while they endeavoured to find where it has gone. Laughing It is, however, according to the service agreement, "an important component of the Radio 2 mix". Just a shame it was never very funny.

** Re-iteration that Radio 2's remit is not merely to be a replica of commercial radio, but to provide music and information that will appeal to a broader public taste.

Hey,

Wow! That's my, and other folks here too, top 10 complaints about Radio 2. Must check the iplayer, thanks for that.

Some of us complaining about the changes to Malcolm Laycock's show had a hint from the BBC Trust that they were investigating the state of Radio 2, but I really don't know how much change the Trust could affect.

Did he really say that? Good grief!! So that's what Radio 2 has become. If Jeremy really thinks that legends such as Sinatra only have an aged fan base, then I suggest he goes back to school. Outrageous.

Sorry, slight misquotation. He said that those who wanted Sinatra etc felt that they have to go to Saga.

Saga was taken over by Smooth 18 months ago.

Thanks Ron. Still think there's an inherent problem - Radio 2 SHOULD be the natural home of legends such as Sinatra, Nat, Ella. It no longer is, and there is nowhere to go for fans of their sublime music.

I liked the caller was saying people off the telly getting Radio 2 slots and said he hated Chris Evans. As was pointed out, Evans started out in radio then moved on to Tv so that argument was null and void.

At the end of the day Radio 2 management should be asked these questions not the BBC Trust? They don't have anything to do with the scheduling, etc on Radio 2 and 6 Music.

A shame that bloke followed up the Dermot/TV celebs point by mentioning Chris Evans. Even if you're not a fan, you have to acknowledge that Evans was radio before and after his stints on Channel 4. Should have said Alan Carr or Claudia Winkleman (who are awful).

The demise of jazz on Radio 2 - and the further maginalisation of specialist programming.

Is Radio 2 deliberately trying to push specialist programmes out the door?
