May I make a suggestion that a TV discussion section is introduced to www.r2ok.co.uk ?

Yes, of course there is - so long as it isn't about Britain's Got Talent! I'm sick to death with hearing about it!

Well, yes - if you look. There was a very good 90 mins TimeTeam Special last night on Stonehenge and some of the latest theories about its origin.

That's just one example, among many, of good, well-produced and well-presented British telly.

And that's before mentioning BGT - which 20 million people seem to have considered OK as well.

I have recently been enjoying classic reruns of On The Buses and Carry On Laughing on ITV3. They don't make comedy like this any more.

I particularly like On The Buses - especially the old black 'n white ones that were made at LWT's Wembley Studios in order that they could drive the buses in. They were unbelievably cheaply made - tacky sets, wooden acting, cheap gags, etc - but still endearingly funny.

"Please Sir!" was another ITV (London Weekend) sitcom I liked, too, along with the original series of "Doctor In The House". They look really naff now but what the heck eh?! Smile

Sadly, none of the old ITV companies exist in their old form any more, and ITV hasn't made 30-minute sitcom for years and years. Writers don't like the omposition of the ad breaks for fear of losing the channel-hoppers, it would seem.

Some of the series of On The Buses (and Bless This House) were recorded and aired in black and white due to the ITV technicians' strike that occurred in late 1970 and early 1971.

And towards the end of On The Buses (when Reg Varney quit), the series declined. It was never the same when Stan (and Arthur) were written out.

It was the same with Please Sir! when 5C moved on - just not the same, hence why it was dropped after a couple more series I think.

When the original cast members decide to move on, or are written out against their will, this always affects the future of the programme (unless it's a long-running series such as EastEnders, Coronation Street or Emmerdale, which are prone to have cast changes).

Gosh, months ago the idea of a Television section in the forum was discussed and I've just remembered.

Hope I'm correct in assuming the members don't need a vote on this Smile

There's a load of threads on TV in the Coffee Bar so, YES I've set up the Television Forum section in the Rec Centre, and I've moved a load of threads from the Coffee Bar including some current ones which you might be looking for....
