There is a topic on Digital Spy, posted by Tabby the Cat, stating that Jakki Brambles is in talks to present an "early morning show" on Radio 2. Jakki, who currently co-hosts Loose Women, is leaving the programme in the summer and is keen to return to radio.

If all this is true, then I wonder what kind of reception Jakki will get? She quit Radio 1 in 1993 and I am uncertain if she has done any radio work since.

Bob Shennan is keen to hire more female presenters, but Jakki Brambles, as far as I am concerned, is an ex-Radio 1 dinosaur, though I suppose those who listened to her on Radio 1 more than likely listen to Radio 2 these days.

In my opinion, Janice Long should be given a daytime slot. I also think Janey Lee Grace and Liza Tarbuck should also be given solo slots on Radio 2. Janey used to present her own show on Virgin Radio and it was a good listen. She also regularly sat in for Ken Bruce several times and was acceptable.

Liza Tarbuck would be ideal presenting Sunday Love Songs.

I'm perfectly happy with Janice Long where she is, thank you. She plays some good music but I can only stand her tree-hugging lefty witter for about five minutes; in fact Janey Lee Grace should join her instead of spouting her environmental claptrap all the time on on Wrighty's show. Ask Elvis talks more sense than she does!

I don't remember Janey Lee Grace ever sitting in for Ken Bruce though; Lisa Tarbuck did I believe and didn't make too bad a job of it, but I think you've got your facts muddled there.

I can only remember male colleagues deputising for Ken in his absence. Alex Lester, Stuart Maconie & Richard Allinson spring to mind. Some years ago (pre Lesley Douglas) Janey Lee Grace did have an early morning saturday show (timing was the same as for Alex Lester Mon-Fri). Other than that the only other time I've heard her not immitating a performing seal on Wrighty's show is when she's sat in on Sunday Love Songs in Steve Wright's absence.

I promise you that I don't have my facts muddled. Janey Lee Grace did sit in for Ken Bruce several times circa 1999 / 2000.

I don't recall Liza Tarbuck sitting in for Ken, though she has sat in for Steve Wright.

I don't remember Janey Lee Grace but I think Lynn Parsons sat in on a couple of occasions.

On the whole I don't particularly like listening to female presenters as they ALL gabble on for far too long!

Janey Lee Grace imo is a terrible presenter-I can't stand the rubbish she spouts on the Steve Wright show on those occasions when I have tuned in.

Lynn Parsons is though a very competent/professional presenter-she knows her music and has a great understanding of how to interact with the listener.

I am going to try and find some old Radio 2 schedules and see whether I can prove to you that Janey Lee Grace has sat in for Ken Bruce! :p

I do recollect Lynn Parsons sitting in for Ken Bruce and Sarah Kennedy.

Lynn is now presenting on Smooth Radio London only on a Sunday morning. Jakki named then, now ( Jackie ) was the first female to broadcast on daytime radio on Radio One before moving to GMTV. She used to stand whilst broadcasting as it helped with her breathing. I think she said " she wanted to give up Loose Women to concentrate on other projects" Bob does like his female broadcasters.

On the plus side, Jakki Brambles has radio experience. On the minus side, Jakki falls into the "I'm a celebrity" category.

Does Jakki have good musical knowledge though-that is the most important point on her CV as far as I am concerned.

Jakki Brambles has been a TV presenter since 1993. I highly doubt she has dedicated much of her busy schedule towards music.

Maybe they are going to move some specialist shows over to 6 Music, and make Radio 2 more mainstream with the shows they have introduced over the last few weeks/ months?

Just a thought.

Do any of you speculators actually listen to the content of these programmes rather than try to out guess the controller's next move?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that Helen; I'd refrained from admitting it on here for fear of being labelled a misogynist! Wink

It isn't simply that they "gabble on too long either", most tend to talk too fast as well, which irks me because I find myself being distracted from the task in hand (usually driving a lorry which ain't good) by concentrating too much on what the presenter is saying. The only one who doesn't speak too fast is SK and she disgraces herself by mumbling and "erring" too much. In fairness there are a couple of male presenters who aren't a deal better.

Many of the female R2 presenters could learn a thing or two from their colleagues on R4, who always speak clearly and without undue haste.

I haven't got a clue who she is, but here is a thought I had whilst reading some of the comments about her and music.

Not being involved in music programming/not recognised as someone with an interest in music just means that in her previous work/employment she hasn't had much to do with music. It doesn't mean she doesn't have an interest in music... there might be some sort of new "side" to her that we haven't seen and we might all be surprised!

Fred

What do you think Radio 1 broadcasts all day or is it not classed as music?

If she's been on there as a presenter she darn well should know something about music.

H

PS I know the name but I'd stopped listening to R1 long before she arrived so no idea what she sounds like.

I wonder if Richard Madeley will be offered a permanent slot on Radio 2?

I wonder? He would be good covering for Jeremy Vine.

An honourable mention for Suzi Q. She may only be on once a week, but she doesn't gabble, knows her music, and picks some great tunes. Long may she continue on 2 (albeit in a better slot!!)

Tell me you're being serious, Mark! Only in Saturday's Express "newspaper" (if one can describe a rag that's owned by a pornographer called Richard Desmond in such terms) did Richard Madelely insist that the Air France disaster over the Atlantic was caused by a bomb - and one which was placed by Al Qaeda, no less.

Now that's what I call serious investigative journalism. Quite where his evidence comes from is anybody's guess, but what the heck - it's the Express after all. (At least some other sucker bought it! Smile ).

Fitting for sitting in for JV? Well, our Mr. Vine might be a bit annoying to listen to (sounding like a cat perpetually on hot bricks) but he least he doesn't pretend to be an aviation accident expert.

Personally, I think Gabby Logan was an excellent standin last Friday - and she's better looking (even for radio).

I'll agree with you there Igs. I always listen to her, but then she's American and they tend not to gabble.

She should start off with 'Going To Live In L.A.' by Roger Waters or Rainbow's 'L.A. Connection'!

Many Loose Women viewers complain about her saying 'When I lived in L.A...'
