In view that this Show is still going strong, but only broadcast on Radio York now/currently thought it worthwhile starting a brand new thread for folk to post comments etc.
I guess this show must be pre-recorded.
Still just listened to the Saturday Show just gone and its still a great listen.
Good work Mr Allinson. |

I think its been running on BBC Radio York for a while now, but I've never had the chance to listen, being one of those not being in BBC Radio York's coverage area. My Internet connection has improved now, so I can listen (live and after broadcast) on the iPlayer without problems now! I shall give it a go soon. _________________ Fred Hart

It was the same one that was on Radio Oxford in the past Fred, but it's good to know that Richard is obviously still making the show.

Looks like Allinsons Albums goes out 1-3pm on Radio York and not as the heading of this thread. |

Yes it does and it gets repeated on Sundays. I managed to catch some of the second hour today as I had an early finish from work. Its still as good to listen to as ever! Pity he is buried in the wee small hours on Radio 2, I could name a few others that I would like RA to be swapped with. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Yes Angela-Allinsons Albums on Radio York only currently is 2 hours of brilliant music played.
Can't understand why Radio Oxford and Cumbria have dropped this show from their schedules. |

For anyone who might be interested Allinson Albums goes out today 27/6 at 4pm and not the usual time of 1pm. |

No mention by Richard Allinson of the sad death of Michael Jackson on his show today.
As Mark O mentions this weeks edition of Allinsons Albums must have been pre-recorded a while ago. |

Great for me as I finished work and got home in time for the whole show today. I wonder if it will be in the same slot next week? _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Sorry to say Angela I don't think it is.
AA's reverts back to its regular slot of 1-3pm next Saturday repeated on Sunday 2-4pm.
Hopefully you will find the time to catch up with the show via the iplayer feature. |

Another brilliant show delivered today (11/7) by Richard Allinson on BBC Radio York.
Why Radio Oxford dropped this show from their schedules is totally bizzare.
Keep up the excellent work Mr Allinson. |

I am a happy man today.
I asked Richard to feature a song on Allinsons Albums this week to celebrate the birthday of Rick Davies from Supertramp.
I suggested he play something from the 1974 Album Crime of The Century.
Well blow me down at about 1 hr 45 minutes into the show he played Hide In Your Shell from the above album-my favourite track from C of the C.
Good work Richard |

According to the BBC Radio York schedule Allinsons Albums is going out at 12.30-2.30pm certainly for the next 2 Saturdays (8th August, 15th August).
Richard is currently on holiday so this weeks show and next must be pre-recorded. |

If only we had all day and an extra pair of ears, Mark.
In all honesty, having had a quick skim through the i-player, it sounds very little different to any Radio 2 Richard Allinson show. I expected some album tracks, as opposed to singles taken off albums; we even had the dreaded Mika and Michael Bublé's latest playlist tracks. _________________ Ron |

He's all right. The ladies love him and I suspect he puts on a great show. On record he's far too smooth and polished (that may be producer David Foster's fault - he has a reputation for sanitizing everything); the new song sounds like so many others,, as Chris Evans demonstrated when he played it as a Juke Box Jury item. _________________ Ron |

actually Ron, I was referring to the fact you'd bothered to put the little thingy over the "e" in his name..... I like it
From what I've heard of him though, he sounds pretty good to listen to. _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

Ron-Without wishing to be disrespectful/unkind in any way why not listen/tune into a full show of Allinsons Albums and then report back.
Perhaps a full listen would give you a full context of the show and the album cuts played. |

OK, I've listened to it all the way through.
Here's the tracklist:-
Paul Young - Come Back And Stay (1983)
Bad Lieutenant - Sink Or Swim (2009)
Chic - Good Times (1979)
David Bowie - China Girl (1983)
Maria Muldaur - Midnight At The Oasis (1974)
Genesis - Turn It On Again (1980)
Mika - We Are Golden (2009)
Sharleen Spiteri - Melody (2008)
Beatles - Getting Better (1967)
T Rex - Get It On (1971)
A Ha - Analogue (2006)
Michael Bublé - Haven't Met You Yet (2009)
Mariah Carey - Dream Lover (2003)
Genesis - Misunderstanding (1980)
Daniel Merriweather - Impossible (2009)
Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds (1969)
Abba - Eagle (1978)
Tommy Reilly - Grab Me By The Collar (2009)
Anastacia - I Can Feel You (2008)
Stevie Wonder - If You Really Love Me (1971)
Mama's Gun - Let's Find A Way (2009)
Amy Winehouse - Help Yourself (2003)
Chris Rea - Come So Far Yet Still So Far To Go (2009)
Genesis - Behind The Lines (1980)
A Ha - Nothing Is Keeping You Here (2009)
Love Unlimited - Walking In The Rain (1972)
Nerina Pallot - Real Late Starter (2009)
If you looked at that would you really think that it was an album show, as suggested by the title "Allinson's Albums"? With the exception of the Beatles, Abba and Genesis' Behind The Lines they are all singles (Abba's was a B-side here but a hit single in its own right in many countries).
The albums handle kicks in when you listen, because he tells you what album they all came from, and because he has a featured album, in this case Duke, "the one with the wonky artwork", from which three tracks are played.
As a two-hour music programme it's actually pretty good - I'm fairly envious of the folks who live in Yorkshire and Cumbria - but it isn't really much different from his Radio 2 persona. A few more bona fide "album tracks" would make it even better.
Lest I have given a false impression before, I should say that I would quite happily listen to Richard any time - he's all right. If I had half his gift of the gab and wanted to be a radio presenter I like to think I'd sound like him (except that he can sound a bit smarmy at times, so not that part of him). He is just too straight and comfortable, too 1980s (remember his VH1 days with Julia Carling?) and his opportunity to host a daytime Radio 2 show permanently has almost certainly passed. _________________ Ron |

Good work Ron.
As a regular listener week in week out i would confirm Richard does play quite a few "album tracks" of various artists-not just the singles from the albums they came from.
I did smile when I read that if you were a DJ/presenter that would you would like to be like Richard-good man.
As for Richard hosting a daily show on Radio 2 maybe he doesn't want to, with other commitments taking up his time/keeping him busy.
I think he is quite happy having 8 hours or so radio air time a week. |

Apart from 'Behind The Lines' (from Genesis's 'Duke' album), Allinson may as well have programmed Turn It On Again and Misunderstanding (gahhh!) from the Turn It On Again compilation.
I would have gone for 'Heathaze' and 'Man Of Our Times' off 'Duke'. He also played the title song off 'A Trick Of The Tail' the week of Mike Rutherford's birthday during the R2 Great British Songbook spot. _________________ We are loonies and we are proud!

Richard is certainly my "music education". Interesting to hear what Frank Sinatra thought was the best all time love song. |

I missed the show today (work) but I did listen to most of yesterdays and I assume today was a repeat? I always enjoy his Albums shows, there is a good mix of music and he seems to find stuff I had forgotten over the years. I especially like the 'birthday tracks'! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Yes the same show-I tuned into the re-run today as opposed the live version yesterday as I went to see my beloved Chelsea.
Yes the birthday files are good.
This show is just getting better and better.
Richard obviously loves presenting this style of show and the knowledge of the artists and songs he tells us about is excellent.
Richard is certainly my musical education. |

Just a note to advise that Allinson Albums will only be broadcast on Sunday Jan 3rd this week at 2pm.
The Saturday lunchtime airing is replaced this week by another programme.
The Saturday and Sunday airings return the following weekend. |
