Rachel,

I've just recently got into listening to Alex - funnily enough, by how much you rate him. Must say I really enjoyed the shows. Today's stint for Ken was a great show - any show with Supertramp in is going to be a great one!!

Hadn't seen what he looked like but when Richard mentioned he looked like Ron Wood from behind, I had to get his web page and take a look!

Thanks for introducing me to another good DJ, Rachel. Wink

I emailed Alex to wish him Happy New Year, and he kindly replied.

Very Happy

An enjoyable morning. No-one can match Ken Bruce but this wasn't bad.

Nice bit of musical variety from Lazy Bones for a change.

It's always difficult to separate two great talents, so I never try. Alex being fab doesn't take anything away from Kenny. It just leaves me wondering why Alex is always hidden away on the graveyard shift when there are a couple of other day-time shows begging for talent.

Andy .. thanx for that ........Smile

Is Alex staying in London the whole week or communting to and from Birmingham? He usually stays in the big smoke if he covers for Sarah. At least we know the licence fee is paid for a nice posh hotel. Laughing

Did he sell cars on the 80's ?

Why do stand-ins have to go on about not understanding Pop Master, are they all stupid or what ?

Only three years younger than me! good, I feel better now.
The pictures have disapeared now it seems but that first one with the long dark curly hair could have been of me in the eighties, had a mop just like it. It's still long and curly but somewhat grey now... Confused

Rachel, I'm not so sure about that. Rolling Eyes 40's maybe, but one things for sure, one needs to make the most of one's life after 40 because it don't 'alf go quickly after that!!

I haven't got a problem with anybodys sexuality, but I have it on quite reliable authority that Lynn 'Bowles' for the other side, if you know what I mean. Now, who knows whether that is common knowledge among her on-air colleagues I don't know, but I just find it sooo tortuous to hear banter with her about fit blokes, 'he's a bit of alright' etc etc, which she of course plays along with. If she hasn't come out I'd find it quite tiresome to engage in, if I were her, on what is almost a daily basis.
If, on the other hand, she is openly gay, why the charade?

Danny Baker works with two gay co-hosts, Baylen Leonard and Amy Lame and it's so refreshing to hear that openness talked about on-air, without this dreadful pretence of 'normal' heterosexuality simply because gay references on R2 might upset the Daily Mail readers in Tunbridge Wells!

Its lucky they dont employ Dale Winton then. Or give specials to Paul O'Grady. Or let Gambo on the air.

Some people enjoy batting for both sides but being gay doesn't prevent people from understanding and commenting on, what makes the opposite sex attractive.....

Yeah, but a) We pretty much all know about them, and b) Nobody ever pretends on-air that they're anything other than homosexual !

Like I say, I couldn't give a monkeys about someones sexuality, it's this ridiculous pretence of heterosexuality that I have a problem with.

But I'm sure Lynne has mentioned bringing up kids several times. Not that it really matters.

(Although there is an occassional R2 presenter who keeps up the heterosexuality pretence despite, er, Ball-ing from the other side. Presumably his fanbase would take a hit if it got out).

It will be good to have most things back to normal next week but it has been fantastic to have Alex on during the day this week. The best possible start to the new year. This morning's show, oozing with the stuff that makes life exciting, was electrifying; you could reach out and touch it, stroke it, feel it; and love it. I did.

Yes, I thought Alex was very good. I hadn't expected to like him, but I did. The Wogan handovers and Vine chats were fun, and everything bristled along very well.

I must admit he wasn't as bad as expected. What I dislike about his normal night show is that rubbish 'connections' thing which just drags on and on..., thankfully he had to use KB's format. Smile

Was a little surprised by his technical ineptitude with the quiz mind.

Apparently he once cost the BBC £25K in repeat fees for playing the first half of a concert twice by mistake, so he's got form, so to speak....

I can't but help like him, though - he has an unusual way of looking at things, is good with people and has carved out a little niche for himself in the 'Best Time of the Day' slot with a small but very loyal following.

Though I'm not his biggest fan I would much rather hear his sort over the fly-by-night TV fodder of Brand and O'Leary etc.

Note: The similar and very good Steve Madden now doing the 5am-7am weekday slot on BBC Berkshire!
