I know Ex Controller Lesley Douglas liked the celebs on the station. I noticed since Bob S has taken over there seems to be a few more creeping into the schedules. The existing DJ's like Richard, Stuart and Mark R have been pushed aside to cover. We have Dale covering for Steve in a few weeks, not Mark R. Stuart used to cover, instead Simon brought over from 5 Live to cover. Is this a cost cutting exercise, not have Stuart or Mark come to London?

Just like to know what the earth is going on. I liked Mark and Liza or Emma in the afternoons, not disrespecting Dale as he's done Radio for years, and a good broadcaster. I did warm to Stuart on Drivetime, and Even Richard when he covered and covered for Ken or Steve.

Your thoughts please?

Mark-Why are you posting exactly the same message both on here and the new BBC Radio site-I don't see the point.

By the way Helen's response on the BBC site is spot on-I totally agree with her, that you are reading too much into the scheduling of presenters.

I still don't get the point of the leading post. Wasn't Jimmy Young a "celebrity" before he began spinning them platters and saying TTFN on the BBC Light Programme? So what's the difference now?

I think he had done some broadcasting before Colby?

Being a 'celebrity' back then and before JY's time actually meant a bit more than having done a reality TV show and had released a couple of records. Actors did rep, and singers, comedians did much the same in the nunerous theatres which were up and down the land.

According to the Mail on Sunday... ( it may have been the magazine) "Celebrity" is dead. Oh so very last year. To be a proper celeb now, you also have to be an achiever...... if you aint dun nuffinn you aint a celeb....

Yes, but to be fair, who on the Radio 2 roster has got the gig simply because they spent a couple of weeks in the Big Brother House for Brain-Dead Morons and the like?

If you look back into the 40s and 50s you'll see evidence of lots of radio show hosts who were famous for their music hall acts, etc., and who weren't "radio presenters" first and foremost - largely because the medium itself was relatively new. It was the offshore pirate stations from 1964 that heralded the rise of the American style "DJ" that changed things - but there's no reason why that has to remain so.

People like Alan Carr aren't "DJs" as such, but on stage he works an audience superbly well and is a master of his craft. Whilst I don't go out of my way to listen to him on R2 (I have better things to do to be honest) I don't really question the rationale in his recruitment to the station simply because there are distinct parallels with early BBC Light Programme broadcasting.
