It doesn't matter. David Jensen is on at that time on Planet Rock - much better!

What's happened to Lulu, or even Janey Lee Grace?

I expect most people in Liverpool that I know won't be listening. Mind you they don't listen to Steve Wright in that time spot either. Laughing

This weeks show is a specially themed programme of American Love Songs, and your romantic dedications. Is Cilla American?

Cilla's Top Five Catchphrases:

"And here’s our Graham with a quick reminder."

"Surprise, surprise it's Cilla here."

"What’s your name and where d’ya come from?"

"Lorra lorra laughs"

"Do I need to buy a new hat?"

Not forgetting 'My Bobby told me to vote Conservative' and 'I love Mrs Thatcher.' Rolling Eyes I wonder what John Lennon would have thought of that?

I read somewhere The station is sticking to its policy of never, ever employing new talent, but rather to give bucket loads of money to millionaires, or the very well-heeled to act as presenters.

This "sing-song" type of delivery is more appropriate for children's programmes. Bring back Lulu; even her multi-accented presentation, ranging from mid Atlantic to Glaswegian is better than this, which as Mark says, sounds like she's reading from a script.

Can it be so difficult to find radio presenters? Surprised

Still sopunds like she's presenting Blind Date. Keep expecting "oohs" & all that from the audience.

Meaning no offence to any Liverpudlians on here.......

.... Cilla's voice always sounds to me like someone sawing tin sheet with a blunt hacksaw.

Switched on this morning in the middle of a tune, then five seconds after the end when herself opened her gob.... OFF!

I'm afraid her sincerity always sounds contrived to me; before anyone says anything I'm sure she's lovely but it just sounds that way.

It's not too bad, but i wouldn't like her as a regular presenter
She uses the same presentation techniques as in blind date.
Like the trilling, now for some more of your MessaAGESSSS with the upward lift in the last word as if she was saying something naughty 7 suggestive.
ooohhh, fellass!

I don't know how you lot can listen to it. I haven't listened to SLS for years - with or without stand-ins! I think it's a horrible format - whether cheesy Steve Wright or the even Cheesier Cilla Black is in the chair or not. Yuck.

BTW - David Jensen is on at the same time as SLS on Planet Rock. Better presenter, better music, better show! All is not lost....

She did redeem herself by playing two superb Dolly songs "I Will Always Love You" (original & best version" & "Love is like a Butterfly" though she couldn't resist a suggestive giggle when she said "Two great ones from Our Dolly"

Ooer Mrs!

We might as well tune into another station as it's the Summer break with a lot of TV presenters getting the BIG BADGE saying " We are DJing for the nations favorite Radio station" It does seem some forums are getting a little sick of hearing celebrities on Radio 2 who have no radio background. I don't really care if they have sung or earned a living upwards to the BIG Radio 2.

Anyway we got another Cilla listen 16th August.

And 6Music between 9 and 11 is the perfect start to a Sunday.

Cilla sounded quite enthusiastic but very much as though she was reading from a script.

Wouldn't it be better to draft in some experienced local radio presenters to cover holidays? It would probably be cheaper, too.

Ian.

You will all enjoy Charlie Brooker's attack on her in the Screen Burn book! I got this to read on holiday and he rips into her presentation style on 'Blind Date'.

Although Cilla Black's presentation style grates with me somewhat, I don't like Charlie Brooker's style either. What he's bound to omit from his evaluation is that Cilla's network successes are much more popular with audiences than his own TV offerings. That says something!

Would it say something similar to the fact that voting for Big Brother is more popular than voting for a general election... Wink

It would indeed. More to the point, is that a criticism of the individuals concerned of society itself?

Have to say I thought Cilla's show was awful, I've always had a soft spot for her but this is not her bag at all. As for Charlie Brooker, well he's just a nasty man with a permanent sneer.

Blind DJ Smile

So Bob, you’ve asked your three questions- it’s time to make your mind up, but before you choose, here’s our Graham with a quick reminder…

Well Bob, will it be number one- our flirty Steve , an old romantic, he says he’s been doing it for years, he’d like to woo you with chocolates and flowers.

Or perhaps you’d like number two, Seductive Sarah, a vivacious and lively blonde, she says she’ll introduce you to her pussy-cat and kiss you until your lips go numb but only if you like sprouts.

Or maybe number three is right up your street; he’s Risky Richard, always ready to swing into action to sweep you off your feet, but be careful he’s after your show.

The choice is yours….

Depends how you look at it. If he'd been making his shows (eg 8 Out of 10 Cats, Would I Lie To You) in Cilla's heyday they could be getting close to Blind Date's figures. It's just that all ratings are down now. ITV on a Saturday night is lucky to reach 5m, so Charlie's not doing too badly getting 1.5m on a minority channel at 11pm on a Tuesday night.

By the same token, therefore, Blind Date would still be wiping his shows clean. We're talking about two completely different target audiences, after all.

In the heyday of Blind Date there were only really 4 channels to choose from.

Hardly. The last edition of the last series was transmitted on 12th April 2003.

Actully, Mark O is right, in Blind Date's HEYDAY, there were really only 4 channels - its' popularity peaked in the days before multi-channel receivers.
