So, Amanda Redman is two years older than she says she is. Am I bovvered?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8197061.stm

The article is interesting, to learn the reasons why some people, and the Chinese Olympic team, have lied about their age in the past.

Can't get away with it now, when you need three forms of identification just to buy a bottle of gripe water, but in the past I expect we all added a couple of years on to get in to see that X (18 ) certificate film (Guilty:- I saw Who's Afraid Of Virginia Wolf? and The Fox - what a double bill that was! - nine months before my eighteenth birthday)

Has anybody else ever lied about their age, and, now we are all a bit older, are you tempted to do a Katharine Hepburn, and knock a couple of years off?

I’ve been lying about my age ever since 30 leapt at me unexpectedly. Being 30- was devastating. So, I remained 28 for about 5 years after that… then in a cunning change of tactics, to avoid the psychological trauma of being 40: when I was 39 … I added 5 years to my age, so, I skipped right over the trauma of being 40 – I’ve yet to catch up with being my stated 44. On a residential training course back when I worked for a living;- on the first day, when I got up to take my turn at introducing myself, I said ( just as a joke), I was 53. Only one person later that day said to me … you’re not really 53 are you? Yes, I replied. At the time I was actually 40. At the moment I feel no different to how I did at age 20. I can’t run as fast but that’s the only difference. Age ( the number) doesn’t really matter, it’s how you feel about yourself and how you make others feel about themselves that defines where we sit on that journey of decay we call life. This has not been well written but I’m in a hurry. Sorry.

30- = Less than 30 years? Isn't 28 less than 30? Confused

I've never lied about my age, but after I passed 50 I began to realise that I was getting old.

But, and my wife will vouch for this, I still behave like I was 20, larking about, silly jokes, stupid laughs, silly when I've had a drink, but I do (always have) respect for older people.

It's a funny thing, age. I have to pinch myself to accept that I started work 32 years ago this week! Where's it all gone? Question

Being picky, LEE, is a sign that you’re getting old. Smile

I didn't quite reach 32 years of employment, being made redundant after 31.

Now I'm a semi-retired part-time consultant, and with a recession on I've worked just 1.5 days this week, and i must say that can get boring but also tedious as Mrs W. expects me to do more in the house, hanging out washing, ironing, but I got her to cut the grass today (before the weekend of rain... Even spookier, Mark! I started work on 15 August 1977.

I've never lied about my age and like most on here, I've always felt at least 15 years younger than I actually am..
I was quite happy with my lot up until 50 but even then felt pretty comfortable with it but turning 55 started alarm bells ringing as to feeling old.
Now at 57 I'm aware the clock is ticking and I think it's getting faster Rolling Eyes
But what the heck, there's nothing you can do about it apart from eating sensibly, realising your limits, reducing risks and trying not to get so stressed about problems, which isn't easy in my case.
Apart from varying degrees of Asthma over my lifetime, I've enjoyed pretty good health but I do seem to be suffering from more aches in the last year or so, particularly in the feet Laughing

I managed 36 before being given the big E, or R. More than enough, anyway.

Time was, ten, twelve years ago, when all the talk was of everyone being able to retire earlier than the "traditional" age of 65 - all those pension plan ads about going at 55, or earlier.

Whatever happened to that? Let me think... 12 years ago... 1997... Hmm.

Anyway, I've never felt that I was getting older, until close relatives and friends or people of a similar age to me that I knew from work died unexpectedly; that can be a little sobering. I've never felt the need to lie about my age though - not even forty years ago at that cinema - they didn't ask.

Gosh 36 is a long time, Ron. I managed 24 years in the CS before upsetting the really big cheeses with a Report which was supposed to identify opprtunities for a 15% reduction in operational costs, but which instead, recommended getting rid of a few Double Gloucesters and a Mature Cheddar, achieving the desired reduction without affecting operational performance..... Gardening leave followed, then 3-months later, I was retired. Not bad though, a 42 year old pensioner- that's me... Smile ( a little older now)
