I'd go along with that.

I know I'm not a frequent poster here but I do pass through often and browse.

phpBB is a very dated forum software and there are so many better ones available such as myBB for instance.

myBB offer free forums but they also offer the software to download for uploading to to your website which gives you greater admin control and a whole host of free plugins available to integrate into the forum, provided you have ftp access.

You can buy the backup for this forum from bizhat and there are plenty of guys here or here who can integrate the back up into the myBB software for a very small fee.

If this is just a hobby then that's fine but, and please don't take offence John as I mean well, this forum seems to have reached saturation point as far as new members are concerned and the only "new" members you do get are..................well, let's not go there! Perhaps a facelift of sorts is due? Confused

This is a really great forum here with a good bunch of members and I really enjoy reading some of the debates that go on here. I don't get involved as I've never really integrated from the start and besides anything else I run a couple of forums myself which take up a fair bit of my time.

I've been looking at myBB as well, interestingly enough. I agree that phpBB 2.0 is indeed dated - not just on the frontend but in the admin control as well. I run a couple of phpBB forums and I've just brought them right up to the latest phpBB 3.0 which is a lot better. phpBB is heavily targetted by spambots, that's the problem, and it's a right cat 'n mouse game to stay ahead of them.

However, I also think it's time for a change and I might convert. I'm in the process of moving web hosts as well so perhaps it's worth doing at the same time.

Blimey, you run a couple of forums and you still find time to post prolifically on here.

Methinks you have too much time on your hands Wink

Hi,

Angus, Colby,

I'm not really interested in running a bigger and bigger forum that covers every subject under the sun. digitalspy does that quite well already.

R2ok was created as an alternative site to discuss Radio 2's output and history and allow members to share their other interests.

If, out if Radio 2's 12 million listeners only 100 want to contribute then that's that. There's not many more posting at the BBC R2 forums.

Yes R2ok is just a hobby and I wouldn't have time to run a site that operates with record companies, amazon, itunes etc and anyway there's plenty such sites already.

That's no problem at all then John!

One of my forums is on it's third facelift and it's only been around for 18 months. I think it must be me that gets bored easily.....!

Keep up the good work anyway Wink

Is it merely a coincidence that the pic of Steve Wright (thankfully an old one to save bandwidth! Wink ) is on the "Gripes" section?

Or was it there before and I just didn't notice? Embarassed

John, Angus' post was (I'm sure) made to let you know that other neer forum packages just look nicer and facilitate a few more interesting features for users and admins. They don't make it "bigger" unless the number of posts increase.

By the way, I hate Digital Spy - I think it's rubbish and that's why I don't post over there. Yours is much nicer.

You do a good job and it's appreciated.

Second that. Despite the inevitable odd spat this forum is remarkably well mannered and civilised. I suspect most of the credit for that belongs to John.

GG,
Always been there. I didn't move them around, I just renamed each link to where the images are now stored.

I think Evans was the main gripe at the time we did the photos, but nobody wanted his face so SW got the gripe zone Laughing

I wholeheartedly agree. Does anyone know of any similar sensible, civilised forums? I trawled around at the weekend and some of them were just plain daft, (not to mention illiterate). And please, not Sagazone - last time I looked there it was so slow I practically lost the will to live, not to mention any recollection of what I had been trying to do. Rolling Eyes

Bit late coming in here but I agree with others-this is an excellent forum-some of the folk on here have an excellent sense of humour.

Thank you all.

There was a time when this forum briefly degenerated into something like Smeggy's forum, that's where all the banned posters went. Check it out at you peril!

Yup, that was one of those I trawled this weekend, recognised a lot of names and moved on. Rolling Eyes
