That is sad news Mark.

I used to love listening to his lunchtime show (whenever I wasn't at school!) on the old Light Programme and I think on Radio 1. I think it used to be a different presenter each lunchtime back then and I'm sure I've even got a very old reel to reel recording of part of the show. One song I always associate with him is '98.6' by Keith.

He also presented SOTS for a while and I have a cassette of some of those shows.

His Saturday TV show was fantastic as well, anyone remember him arriving in an open top E- Type Jag at the beginning of every show?

I'm quite shocked by the news. The first time I ever heard his voice was on Radio Caroline in its earliest days and I have several recordings from the time (Radio Caroline was really middle-of-the-road at first).

Yes, from BBC's Bristol studios in Whiteladies Road I recall. The technicians` there really didn't like him as he could be a moody sod! He didn't last long on the show.

Britain's first chat show which went out early evening Saturdays, live from the old BBC TV Theatre on Shepherd's Bush Green (now once again the Shepherd's Bush Empire). "It's Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimon Deeeeeeeee!".

Great stuff.

Stop Press: That's it. It's a wrap:

He also presented Sounds Of 60's in 1988 for 13 weeks for Brian Matthews. He was on Radio One in the 60's before leaving after 2 years to go into TV.

RIP
