Well, the schools in England have finally gone back after the summer holiday (here there was a false start, as our local had an Inset Day and then an extra day yesterday "for building work", as if the previous six weeks hadn't been long enough to do the fifty quids' worth).
When it comes to lunchtime, secondary schools have a new healthy regime to adhere to, with the sale of such sweet and fatty things as coke and chocolate banned, and the provision of chips and burgers strictly rationed.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/6127641/School-ban-on-fatty-food-to-beat-obesity.html
"Research published earlier this year found more than half of under-11s and almost two-thirds of pupils in secondary schools have shunned school meals since the Government’s health drive was launched in 2006.
Research by London Metropolitan University found that large numbers of children were still stocking up on calorie-laden, sugary foods from local shops".
Those that can't get out of school are taking lunchboxes - another survey, by website mySupermarket.com, reported on yesterday, found that nine out of ten of those usually contained chocolate, sweets and cakes.
I don't think many of us have children of school age, but we may (or our other halves may) take a packed lunch to work with us/them.
I do my wife a ham or chicken salad (which she peps up with some low-fat or fat-free vinaigrette) in one of her copious Tupperware containers, together with an apple, banana and whatever other fruit is in season (I'm trying to support our frustrated victoria plum growers at the moment). That lot, plus quite a quantity of black coffee, will keep her going all day.
What do other people do? Do we set the world a good example? _________________ Ron |

I have a healthy sandwich and a piece of fruit--oh, all right, I sometimes have a chocolate biccy, too!

I usually have lean meat with spinach and rocket leaves, followed by natural yoghourt and fruit. Alternatively, I have crispbreads with beef or chicken spread.
Healthy or what??
Sadly, I tend to pig out at dinner. _________________ Minx

Maybe tin foil or cling film to wrap your sarnie up. A branded Lunchbox can be so expensive with a picture of a Disney character on it. |

Funny how our high-tech world doesn't seem to have saved (some of) us time for lunch!
As yet another survey reports today, it's not wholly what you eat, but when you eat it. This time it's Americans wasting money to find out that what your grandmother told you is right - breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, dine like a pauper
