BBC are cutting down on production staff. They don't all just work on the Sarah K show. I guess they are needed somewhere else with bigger prospects.

This thread is rather like the very long Sarah Kennedy one on digital spy where people are clearly just listening in so they can whine about it.
Same thing seems to be happening here, listen for 5 minutes then spend more than that typing out a message about how bad it was.

Everyone needs a hobby I suppose...

Hmmm. I remember when JW was doing drive time and would move to breakfast to cover for Wogan. They tried moving Sally to mornings, but I don't think it ever really worked as it did in the evenings. Now JW usually gets Bobbi or Nick if Lynn takes hols at the same time.

I suspect Sally's not a morning person!

Rob

Hmmm (again!). I remember that slightly differently - it seemed to me that Sally was moved to mornings to separate her from Johnnie. If I recall correctly, JW didn't cover breakfast in that period and he and Sally didn't broadcast together. Or I could be reading too much into it!

Sally did move to mornings for a while - but, and I remember this as her son is the same age as my daughter, her son was doing his A levels and I got the impression she wanted to be around more for him.

I emailed Sally a while ago and asked why she couldnt revert to mornings when JW was on breakfast, she had the courtesy to reply saying that it was a lovely idea but wasnt possible. Big shame.

Hopefully when the whole team follow him over to breakfast it wont end up like Moyles on Radio 1 with too much talk and not enough music.

Some hope! How many records do you think will be heard unfettered? A big fat zero, I expect.

Chris was in Newcastle signing copies of his autobiographies this afternoon, so I popped in after work (not to queue... too long... but just for a gander). Just long enough to overhear a guy saying "I used to love you on breakfast". Chris said, "well, we'll be on breakfast again soon". The guys' reply: "really"? - I guess the news doesn't spread to all corners.

As for the book - I'll get it out the library... perhaps. Still haven't got around to reading JW's book yet though.

Let's guess what the first song Chris Evans will play on his Breakfast Show! Shocked

'Shout, Shout (Knock youself out)' By Ernie Maresca.
'Shout' by The Isley Brothers.
'Twist and shout' by The Beatles.

One sentence in the Guardian's report about Moira Stuart's possible role in January bothered me...

Evans... is due to start rehearsals for the show next week.

Not taking Terry's advice, then.

Well, as Simon put it this afternoon - Chris is rehearsing getting up in a morning. And, I hate to bring it up, but given his history...

That's as hackneyed as the number 38 bus. Responsible family man, now (don't let me down, Chris)

Although, anyone "changing shift" from five in the afternoon to five in the morning will require some time to adjust.

His own admission that he's best when he's off-the-cuff and without big names to bother him (Moira Stuart's OK - she must be like an auntie to him). So don't over-prepare / rehearse it.

Nah , he won't need any time to adjust, maybe over a weekend and that would be it. Rehearse? What's to rehearse? Just turn up and talk. Smile

It won't be 'rehearsals' as such, but I expect they'll be trying out new formats and ideas. Lots of people will be paying attention on his first day so he's got to be ready.

Mind you, he apparently spent weeks doing the same thing before starting Drivetime and that was awful at the start.

Maybe they're pre-recording a load of shows just in case Chris sleeps in on the odd day, week or perhaps entire month- nothing like being prepared. Now there's a conspiracy theory- the new breakfast show won't be live at all.! A scoop for the Mail. Smile Perhaps. Woo! Pre-recorded mayhem with an animatronic Chris on a skateboard to keep the web-cam viewers happy. They will gasp, and your career will be over, before it's really started. You can't pull the wool over my eyes. Smile Trust me, I know what's really going on. I wasn't born yesterday ( you can say that again sweetheart) who said that?! I've been around the block, I know which way is up. See, I'm onto you Mr Evans. Of course you can buy my silence, oh yes, I can be bought- I have at least some human qualities. Interested? Yes. Good! Ok Sparky, listen up, here’s the deal. Fear not, your secret is completely safe with me: for a mere drop in the ocean up front, and a reasonably well-paid job at Radio 2 ( on Alex's show of course), with a pension, I’ll tell nobody- not a soul, it’ll be between you and I: the world need never know. Don’t worry about this post – nobody will read it, only you. Don't think about it too long though- I have other offers under consideration. You know where to find me.

I know, but I couldn't resist it. I'm a Evans-fan, and yes, I think he'll be great in the mornings when he's settled in.

As for rehearsals, Evans always appear to me to be a very time-conscious broadcaster -so perhaps this is why he seems rehearsal as important. He seems to get kicks out of being early or late with his timings for the show and when I listen I do feel a general urgency of being moved along - which I'm sure will one day become a pleasant way to start the day (even if I've been used to Wogan's slow lulling for the past decade).

OMG!!! It's worse than I thought. You see, you thought that my previous post was some kind of bizarre job application, but no; it was nothing as sophisticated as that. (You're telling me) It was the cyberspace equivalent of poking a suspected dead animal with a stick, in the hope that the cute little fur ball would roll over, look up at me with pleading eyes, so that I would feel pity, pick it up, take it home, then nurse the little fella back to health before releasing it into the wild. I'm sorry to report, that I'm way too late for that. Rigor mortis has come and gone, the institute of carbon dating may be of some assistance in determining the actual time of death but for all intents and purposes, this thread is well and truly dead. Knowing the actual time of death with an accuracy of plus or minus ten thousand years is of little comfort to those like me whom are grieving for their dearly departed friend in cyberspace. It can only be hoped that the soul we know as a sense of humour has long since gone to a better place. If any of you know where that is, would you please post a link. Thank you.

The last couple of weeks have been great!!

I got used to not tuning in until 9:30 last week so I wouldn't have to suffer CIN (good practice for January) and I've started listening after 5:00 this week (more good practice for January)!

It was much easier than I thought and it means that I'll never have to moan about R2 ever again!!

Apart from Carr, Ball (Z&M), O'Grady, EP, Tarbuck, McCall, etc.............

Is the transition from Wogan to Evans hype getting on anybody else's nerves? hearing Evans on Wogan just now is like a mutual admiration club!

Half of me thought he was genuinely trying to be sincere and the other half was looking for a bucket to throw up into. Having said that, I'm actually prepared to listen to a couple of his first week's shows, just to give the lad a chance. How's that for "goodwill to all men"? Smile

Glad you said that SanteFe! I switched off the moment CE spoke. He is not allowed to pollute my ears.

El Tel should have gone at the end of last week or even after CIN.

I can't see millions of listeners will deflect to some other station. This would seriously damage Radio 2 if that ever happened. Chris will be fine, but as I always say with all changes. People don't like change, but the change will take time to blend in. It's easy for Simon Mayo to just jump into the seat, as he's been covering for a while so listeners are used to him at 5pm.
