With Chris moving to breakfast is it definite that Simon Mayo is taking over the Drivetime Show.

Personally I would like to see Richard Allinson given this show.

No.

I'm sure you would, but the bus sped by three years ago without him on it, and I can't see it coming back.

Our Chef said, according to the Telegraph, Mayo is taking the slot... (not Maconie as I mentioned earlier.. good thing because I like R&M in the evenings..)

Apart from his addiction to Twitter he should be okay, depending what the producers decide to do with the show.

A BBC Press Release, issued this morning after Tel's announcement on-air (indicating that it was all orchestrated) includes the following words:

A BBC Press Person wrote:
Simon Mayo is expected to take over from Evans as Radio 2's drivetime show host.

That means it's a tad short of a 100% certainty. After all, don't we always hear news items that start with "The Prime Minister is expected to announce today that...." (etc) as a means of jumping a press embargo?

Simon Mayo at Drivetime it is then. Anything is better than rentagob, after all.

I am glad I recently invested in a new DAB radio recently, I think I may be looking for a new daytime radio station to listen to. This afternoon no Steve Wright (fantastic) so we get Graham Norton a TV celeb!

Me too. It's set to Planet Rock for most of the time - a station that plays a really wide spectrum of "rock" music (contrary to people's preconceptions).

I've just realisedthe radio's on R2 as I type this; Graham Norton's on.

It's OK. Planet Rock's on now. Done!

Mayo's only real Tweet of the day is:

"You really would think I would have had the common decency to tell you what's happening wouldn't you?"

So, it was certainly planned (to upstage Moyles...?) and I hope Simon's weekend tweet in praise of Ken Bruce also means Bruce is staying.

What's his Twitter user name? I can't find him.

Edit: Got it. It's "Simon Mayo". There's a surprise!

Said to OH this morning " We need to invest in a DAB radio for the kitchen now"

There must be something on at Tel-Time?

If it is, perhaps with his own style of show he just might be okay to listen to.
I didn't think the whinger's show was for him really!

One good thing could come out of this mess: if whoever takes over Drivetime returns it to the level that Johnnie and before him the much-missed John Dunn took it to. Great days.

As a fan of Sarah, Chris and Team RadMac - I'm beginning to feel like a minority on this board.

Just to be clear, I think R&M are just great.. individually or together on their evening show ( so I'm not sure what Clive55 was agreeing to Confused )

What I've heard of Sarah ( too early for me Embarassed ) is ok, even amusing sometimes but Chris is a no go area!

I like Radcliffe and Maconie too. They're real - and they both share a passion for the music they play.

Which is more than we can say for some of their R2 colleagues.

On Simon twitter page he said " Oh Er, eh!! at the weekend when it all broke about Terry leaving. That would show he actually knew it was happening. Most media reckons it will be Simon taking over. Although Richard Allinson or even Mark Radcliffe would have been good contenders.

Another of Mark's infamous misleading subject lines:

"Who Is Taking Over The Drivetime Show"

Is that a statement informing us that Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend have something to do with the Drivetime Show?

or

"Who Is Taking Over The Drivetime Show"

Is that a question?

I'm perplexed by Mark's subject lines!

Yes who is taking over Drivetime? It's bizzare Wogan announces he's leaving Breakfast and who is taking over. Chris could have announced who is taking over Drivetime as it's one of Radio's high profile shows? Maybe the listener would like to know? Instead the mystery broadcaster has already been announced. Or it may not be Simon Mayo?

Maybe both the controller and the presenter know, but that contracts haven't yet been finalised prior to the Press Office being given the go-ahead to announce it to the world.

It's just an idea, Mark.

We all know Simon Mayo isn't going with 5 Live when they move North. It doesn't mean he will take a post at Radio 2. We know it's not Ken Bruce show. I wouldn't think it be Richard Allinson as he was slotted in somewhere to shut the listeners up...........BUT

..............We'll just have to wait and see.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see, Mark. Which basically means what's the point of engaging in idle speculation does it not?

Sorry, santa Fe, I mis read your post
I couldn't imagine anyone liking the dreaded duo, tho I know quite a few do. Including the author of a very entertaining book called Radio Head. It is a great book, about listening to a different radio station each day while at work. Very entertaining. Includes a Radio 2 Chapter. The author likes both R & M and Mr Chris, BTW, & said he doesn't really trust anyone who doesn't like Mr Wogan!
