There is too much MP's expenses claimed for gardening, cleaning and luxury goods like chest of draws which the chancellor is having to pay back. Now PM Gordon Brown is having to pay back over 12K for cleaning and gardening.

There is no rules or standard under these rules for MP expenses. MP's must be thinking they are opening there exam results, but having to see a bill for thousands to pay back. It's a joke.

It may seem unfair that the rules have been changed AFTER their claims were approved. But the old system stank and I just think the MPs should set a good example and pay what's asked for.

I do think the excessive mortgage payments included in expenses should be looked at again though... clearly some MPs took advantage there, excessively, and that's what it's all about, paying back what is now considered excessive claims.

I think some MP's are fuming as the rules have been changed suddenly, and they are having to pay back money for cleaning bills etc when they actually never broke any rules in the first place. Why don't they just all employ a big contract cleaning company to clean their homes.

Government - Contract Cleaning Company.... Confused

That would result in an even bigger rip off in my opinion.

Since it should be abundantly clear to even the most dim-witted of them that by claiming for stuff like that they were milking the taxpayer, legally or not, I have little sympathy for their pathetic whining.

Parliament had no regrets about retrospectively hiking the tax on cars, which mine fell foul of by a mere sixteen days. I think it's poetic justice.

I think some MP's have been feathering their nests getting wives and families working for them. For example one MP is paying his wife 40k a year to do his work whilst he's in London. I don't know why they don't get MP's rented flats in one secure block. I think it be cheaper for them to drive or get trains home. What about late night meeting when trains have stopped running? Will we have MP's sleeping on platforms, or bedding down in the house of commons.

A report released has said "that half of the MP's must pay back expenses claimed".

___________

So the money goes back to the Tax Payer?

On a serious note. Has your MP been trying to rinse the system?
