Put a smile on your face before reading the following...
Two New Zealand university professors of architecture, who specialise in "sustainable living", have published research which finds that the eco-pawprint of a pet dog is twice that of a 4.6 litre 4x4 land cruiser driven 10,000km a year.
Using all sorts of calculations to compare the ecological impact of pets with vehicles or household appliances they also work out that a cat has a marginally smaller pawprint than a VW Golf, and a hamster is about as environmentally dangerous as a plasma-screen television (Depends what channel you're watching, of course )
The conclusion is that perhaps pet owners should swap their cats and dogs for creatures they can eat.

The phrase "barking" comes to mind, quickly followed, since we are a nation of animal lovers and petrolheads, by Captain Mainwaring's "Don't tell him, Pike", because if Gordon gets wind of this he'll want to slap a tax on them. _________________ Ron
