Thanks for your wishes before we left. Must have worked - we had a great time. I really love Sydney, so vibrant, so much to see. Could have spent hours just watching the ferries plough rapidly across the harbour. Went on lots of cruises to surrounding bays, some on catamarans as noisy and rapid as speedboats. Went to Bondi and got the T shirt.

Our "de luxe" apartment was rubbish and we asked for our money back and moved into a hotel quite central. The Sydnonians seem to work hard and party equally hard - the bars and restaurants were teeming from quite early on in the evening. No sign of a recession there, just the odd handful of empty shops, but prices have risen by 41% in the last 5 years and it shows.

Weather was very pleasant for the most part, but temperatures soared in the last two or three days to early thirties, and the day after we left reached 41 deg. Singapore was not as sterile as the last time we were there, some places looking to be in need of a lick of paint. The day before we left we watched the dragon boat races on the river near the Boat Quay. Must have been over a thousand young competitors taking part.

Right.... back to watching the pennies for a while. Crying or Very sad

Sounds wonderful, amounts to a pretty hectic time all in all I'll bet.
You'll need a holiday to get over the holiday now, at least that's how I feel after ours! Laughing
What was the problem with the apartment?
Australia always looks to be a very nice, clean place from what I've seen on TV at least, it's a pity it's so far away.
Shocked 41 degrees? ( 105 degrees in old money ) that would be pushing it for me to say the least!!
Our last holiday in Florida saw the temperature get to the high 90's and that was enough.

Don't suppose I'll ever get there myself as the USA/Canada has more than enough to offer but who knows?

Hope you didn't encounter any of their big spiders!!

( There was a clip on "You've been Framed" or something similar where a chap was trying to trap a spider up in the corner of his room.. It was huge and, it knew he was there and it was threatening him too! Shocked )

Glad you had a great time Minx, time to start planning the next one? Wink

What was wrong with the apartment? Well, apart from the dirty carpets, cracked mirrors, burned work-surfaces and grubby shower corners, we were less than impressed to open a cupboard door and find this!

I didn't come across any spiders (I did see that video clip and it was really spooky!)

But apart from the apartment disappointment.... great!

Cape Town is next.... March next year.

I see what you mean.. looks like that paint tin has been there forever too.

I'm glad you saw that spider clip, I thought it was unbelievable! how folks can live with beasts like that walking around is beyond me...

Did you miss Radio 2? Laughing

Seriously!

We landed around 4.,30am and honestly, the Dork Lard and SK had never sounded better on our journey back home.

We did however like Aussie TV. So impressively non- PC. We watched the Melbourne Golf event with Tiger Woods guesting, and were amazed to hear the commentator talk about one of the other competitors "checking out Tiger's butt!"
Embarassed
