ITV has taken full control of GMTV after buying Disney's 25% stake in the breakfast broadcaster for £22.25m.

The network now plans to more closely integrate GMTV's breakfast-time programming with its daytime lineup.

"GMTV is the gateway to the ITV day and a perfect fit with ITV’s existing daytime programming," said ITV chief operating officer John Cresswell. "It represents an exciting opportunity to create a highly complementary daytime schedule offering great programming from 6am to 6pm."

GMTV has held the national Channel 3 breakfast-time licence since 1993, when it outbid the incumbent TV-am for the slot. Prior to today's move, ITV owned 75% of the broadcaster.

Only thing may change will be the name and could change to ITV Breakfast?

Well they're right about one word, actually, because the first programme filled with tat and hogwash complements the next and so on all the way from 6am to 6pm (and back to 6am - have you seen tonight's schedule? Rolling Eyes )

£22.5m I bet Disney thinks Christmas has come early.

Does anyone on here actually watch GMTV? I can honestly say the only time I've come across it is when in a hotel room, but it never occurs to me to put the telly on at Breakfast.

Not me for sure.
I can only just about stand 30 minutes of BBC Breakfast News.. and that's only because the Mrs puts it on as soon as she wakes up ( I don't know why as she disappears downstairs immediately after that )
In my half asleep mode, all I hear are much repeated so called news stories, amateurish reporters, bad grammar, sickly cross talk between presenters and rushed economic reports and interviews with "leading people" that last about 1 minute!
I usually turn it off after the first swig of coffee and turn Sir Tel on but that will have to change when thunder gob takes over..

I don't watch breakfast TV either unless I'm on holiday in the US. In fact it's extremely rare that I watch daytime TV at all, unless something spectactular is happening.

It's radio for me but it won't be for much longer when the Ginger One gets his hands on the microphone. They say silence is golden don't they?

I'm not impressed with any breakfast TV offering, though we will drowsily coast through the TV from 6.30am onwards until getting up., when we switch to radio. But I just see a great chasm looming from next year. Maybe we will have to get used to going to bed later and getting up later! Laughing

I'm roughly the same. My wife puts GMTV on as soon as she wakes - she can't stand BBC Breakfast, and if I have SK on the radio she's liable to start singing along, which is not a pretty thing to hear Very Happy

So I have BBC1 on downstairs while I'm doing breakfast and the lunch she takes to work and switch to Terry once she's gone. I yearn for the old days of Breakfast television, with Frank and Selina, and the Green Goddess. It wasn't deep but it looked and sounded a darn sight more professional than the current lot.
