They had to give Sarah the extra half hour cos RAJAR count the listeners half as often before six o-clock, , this way, it will keep her numbers up. Looks like Janice is the one to miss out on airtime.
Alex finishing at 5am!!! My life is ruined. You know Mr Evans, I can go off some people very quickly. You had better be jolly good, otherwise I'll be up there to ... hmmmm what would I do? Have a word... yes that's what I'd do. See now you're worried. Say after me. I better be good. I better be good. I better be good, and you better be, or I'll ... oh we've done that already....you get the Rembrant big boy?! Good. |

Well I'm pleased that Sarah is getting extra time, I'll just have to listen to her between 7.30 -9.30 _________________ MiS |

That's what I'm thinking of doing providing the show is on Listen Again quickly enough.

Well, means that's it's very unlikely I'll ever listen to Sarah live again
(I never go to bed early, never get up early, I'm a no earlier than 7.00am person now, in fact I'm most often 7.30am now when Mrs W gets up)

Yes you can record radio using Sky+ but because there is no radio programme schedule listed you are guided to a Manual Recording screen where you put in the beginning and end times you want for, say channel 0102 (which is R2). _________________ -

You can on Virgin if you've got a non-V+ box (but you can't listen/watch anything else at the same time, unless you still get analogue tv signals through it, in which case you can watch ch 1-5) _________________ Ron |

Shame for Janice. An hour of (mostly) non-playlist music is lost as well.
Shame for Alex. He really has got the graveyard shift now.
Shame for Sarah. She's got to get up an hour earlier. At least the traffic should be lighter. _________________ Ron |

Well if not H, you can always listen to Monday's on Tuesday, Tuesday's on Wednesday etc. Which leaves only Monday morning to fill. Maybe I'll have a lie in _________________ Minx

It's no good me recording it on Sky as OH likes to have the TV on for a short while. I like the paper and the radio in the kitchen where there is no TV.
I'd prefer a bit of current news as well, so the day after would annoy me! I may have to invest in that Roberts radio that records shows using an SD memory card.

I've looked at that one Rachel, but I think I'll go for the Roberts that SanteFe has, and is very similar. It has bass and treble controls that so few radios have these days.
Our fave store has it as well!

Poor Alex is going to be in for quite a few 5 hour shifts when Sarah doesnt turn up due to illness. Regardless of this new shift Radio 2 will start a few seconds after 9.30am for me in 2010. |

It could be longer than that for Alex, PG, if Chris' yang kicks in. Chris' ying is fine but his yang is a morning beast so we haven't seen it on Drivetime. It's gonna be like "Release the Kraken" when Chris starts on Breakfast- anything could happen, and it will. |

Hi R2Icon, Im afraid I wont be listening the new breakfast show or perhaps I should say BreakTrash show. The best part of 2010 Breakfast will be when Johnnie Walker does the first week of the new year, down hill from there on Im afraid. Thank god for DAB radio! |

Hi PG,
yeah these DAB radios are a godsend, and the ones that can record and rewind are just off the scale fantastic for nighttime radio lovers who sleep at night. I think Chris' breakfast show will be ok but just ok; so much around it is having to change to accomodate his Diva-side, it could upset more than just Wogan listeners. For example my magic hour for radio, is between 05:00 and 06:00 with Alex, and that's going to change because of a breakfast show that currently starts at 07:30. It's bonkers. Why Chris needs to start at 07:00 is beyond me, was it not enough to be handed the most popular breakfast show slot on the planet? Couldn't Chris have just slid into Wogan's slippers and timeslot without causing all the fuss and making everyone else change timeslot too? This wouldn't have happend if I were in charge! We have a schedule, it's worked perfectly well for as long as anyone can remember, the breakfast show slot is 07:30 to 09:30, do you want it or not, would have been my way of offering it to him. The whole point of management is to manage. The moment you let a subordinate dictate terms, is the moment your career starts its slide into obscurity. |

Well at least Sarah K gets an extra half an hour, though how many of us will get to listen live is debatable!
Perhaps we should all take a leaf out of Mark Mayhew's book and stay up all night listening to our "mighty" favourites _________________ MiS |

In Chris words "that's not a breakfast show starting at 7.30am. I guessing maybe this might be a short period for Sarah then maybe a weekend slot in the future plans? Sarah wanted to stay at Radio 2, and there wasn't anywhere else in the schedules for her at present. |

I can see what Chris means. With Terry's 7.30 start, he's barely got going before everyone skips off to school or work. Breakfast is closer to 7.00 (as it is here).
They always used to say that the two tunes you would most likely hear being whistled or hummed at work would be those played either side of the eight o'clock news, cos that was when most people listened. Well, nowadays schools start a bit earlier so that peak line might have moved backwards a little. Chris will want to take advantage of the peak audience, and warm them up a little beforehand, and that's the real reason for the earlier start. _________________ Ron |

It's not about what "Chris" thinks. If Chris is running Radio 2 , what are we paying Bob Shennan for? If we could all pick our own start and finish times at work the world would fall apart. Anyway after what I've heard today, I'm not usre that it's worth caring about it. |

very well put R2Icon, a case of tail wagging the dog. If I were in charge of Radio 2 then Chris Evans would never have got Drivetime or the Breakfast show. However, as you say, why should everyone else have to change their lives just because he wants the show to start 30mins earlier. Oh well it means a whole load of people are going spend an extra 30mins listening to another a station. |

Apparently not. What on earth is the purpose of this "Bye Bye Drivetime" extravaganza that is currently being trailed? Other than a gratuitous self-promotion exercise. For God's sake it's not like he's been doing the show for 27 years or anything. Tel seems to be going quietly enough and he really does have a track record to be proud of. I am sick and tired of seeing the ginger one's face all over the papers and television.... the BBC act like they think they've discovered gold or something. _________________ Minx

Don’t get me wrong, I still think Chris is brilliant on Drivetime, but Drivetime is the Suzuka in sunshine of shows while Breakfast is the Monaco in heavy rain. Monaco requires a very different style of driving: absolute concentration, dedication, commitment, patients and daring combined with the boldest of overtaking manoeuvres and brave pit-stop strategy. One slip, one blink, one poor apex or one key change too many and you’re a passenger, heading backwards at 150 MPH, straight to the scene of the accident. Monaco can lead to glory and maybe it will for Chris but the path to that glory is longer, harder and more treacherous than any race he’s ever attempted. I still think it’s a huge management mistake to put him in that race. |

Well Terry never made it seem that way to me. Just looked like a natural.
And as for patients..... I think there'll be plenty of casualties but probably most of them will turn into out-patients. _________________ Minx

This O2 thing is getting on my nerves as is the fact that everywhere you look it's bloody Evans! TV as well . I have the R2 page as my home page but until they take his grinning face off the main bit of it I think I'll switch to something else.
It will all end in tears..................

Exactly. Evans' 3 and a half years barely even registers on the scale, it doesn't even come close to Johnnie Walker's 7/8 years on Drivetime. He seemed to go quietly enough too, with one hell of a final show featuring an extensive Neil Diamond interview. I really have high expectations for Simon Mayo and hope he and the bosses realise he doesn't have to follow the format of Evans' show.
It's a shame we have to endure all this Evans self-promotion while listening to other R2 shows, with little celebration of Wogan's final 2 weeks. I guess it shows where R2's priorities lie. |

The closer it gets to Wogan's farewell, the sadder I feel - we heard Frank this morning, and Eva - will they get a look in once the new regime takes over? Even if they do, the fact that Evans is like fingernails on a blackboard to me means I won't be listening.
Also, I don't recall John Dunn trumpeting his departure from Drivetime, and HE was a legend. _________________ MiS |

And of course by changing the slot, they cleverly make it impossible to compare like with like, when the headline listening figures come out, so it'll be harder for newspapers to run stories like "Good Evans! Chris loses half Terry's audience."
I doubt I'll be listening. I tried a bit of Drivetime yesterday, just to see if things had improved, but the first decent song I heard him play got about half way through before he was bellowing over it. |

Hi MiS,
I'm feeling the same way.
A few weeks ago someone I know said I wonder what he'll play on his last show? I said it would be almost impossible to predict as there are so many songs and artists he has championed over the years. After this discussion I started to notice a few of his 'special' ones appearing and references to past times. So think we've had a lot of his favourites already.
H
PS I've been recording quite a few of 'Wogan's' of late so if anyone wants a few for nostalgia, I've a fairly painless way of getting them to you. _________________ 88 - 91 FM this is Radio 2 from the BBC!

It will most likely be Stardust by Nat King Cole (his favourite song)
Then again it might be the Floral Dance |

But if it's not a popular time to start a breakfast show, why is it the most popular with the listeners? Perhaps all the other breakfast shows start too early. |

All the commercial stations appear to start breakfast at 6, going on until 9 or 10. That's just the formula which was started by the offshore pirates of the 60s, which broke the day up into three-hour segments.
Until now it hasn't really mattered where the Radio 2 lines have been drawn, because the switch from Sarah to Terry and Terry to Ken has been seamless _________________ Ron |
